Okay so basically, let's go back in time and switch Fat Lip with Underclass Hero. Hell, let's switch All Killer with Underclass Hero. Let's also switch Underclass Hero with American Idiot.

Do you think Underclass Hero would've been as successful, or possibly, even more successful than Fat Lip had it been released back in whatever that year it was released? 2000/2001 I think?

Lots of people seem to compare Underclass Hero to American Idiot, because of some musical similarities and use of certain lyrics (empty streets, religious references). Do you think Underclass Hero would've launched Sum 41 to mega-stardom like American Idiot did for Green Day if it was released before American Idiot?

- I guess music evolves with time, and launching underclass hero like 8 years ago wouldn't have had the same impact as fat lip had.
- Green Day was really known for their previous records, american idiot was just a commercial album, (unfortunately ?) Sum 41 is less known than GD, so i don't really think launching UH before AI would've help them to be famous ...
And to my mind Underclass Hero is a thousand times better than American Idiot !!!

1. Fat Lip is just different than Underclass Hero and I think Fat Lip that was this teen spritied rebellion anthem in 2001 was really popular then, you know, so I think Fat Lip was then at the right time, UH isn't as good as Fat Lip so ... again.

2. As for two, I actually do believe it had the potential to be more succesful with the media, but its kinda different. Sum 41 actually started as pretty mainsteam with AKNF, like In Too Deep and Fat Lip and all were a lot on MTV and Fat Lip was a hit on TRL and stuff ,ya know, but then they went more under the radar with their metal sound in DTLI and Chuck which kinda threw them out of MTV , not entirely but they had no hit such as Fat Lip, not on MTV nor on the mainstream media. With UH they kinda tried to come back to the mainsteam music but they didn't seem to succeed.
On the other hand, Green Day were pretty underground punk in the beggining, they then gained more attention with a major label signing but they never had such mainstream and MTV success as with AI, so for Green Day it was almost like a break. It was actually their break in MTV.
MTV is slow on that, cuz when they get this new hit song with a band that never had those before, for MTV the artist deserves to be called a new act or something cuz its their break.

Anyway, I do think UH could be the next AI, although AI just was more epic , I'm not saying I like AI more than UH cuz I don't, but AI had a more epic feeling. I mean, for god's sake, its a freakin' rock opera, The Who style and all, and some call it the first punk rock opera.
UH could've taken AI's place in 2004 but it probably wouldn't get as popular as AI (grammy and all) but I still could be a lot more succesful than it was maybe in 2004.
