Yea I need some help. My band needs a microphone but neither of us has a clue about them. Right now we're using some cheap caraoke mic thing plugged into a guitar amp. It really sucks so we need a new one. I know theres condencer and dynamic mic's but i don't really know the difference and don't know which to get. Help plaease??

Re: mic's
First, you can use either a condenser or dynamic mic fr really anything, but most people use dynamic mics for micing up drums and bass/guitar cabinets, but that's not to say you can't use them for vocals either. Condenser mics are mainly used for acoustic guitar and vocals, but you can still use them for other purposes. If you want to record drums/cabinets/stuff like that, I would strongly recommend the Shure SM57. It's fairly cheap and it's considered the workhorse in recording stuff like that. For vocals, get a really nice condenser mic for like $400 or so.
Do a lot research if yor really seriously about buying good recording equipment. I always use and recommend this website. Definitely read the entire "Tweak Guide" and look on the forums. Endless information is there.

Re: mic's
i use a Shure SM58 on stage, pretty nice Dynamic mic. i love it.
tho if your music relys on good vocals, the Shure Beta87 is probrably better (ie. more for pure vocalists. no band ect..)

C'mon!
Buy SM58 for recording cabinets too. just remove the top layer and it's SM57... like in the old days :)
www.myspace.com/sfo7 - my band recorded a single in an amazing recording studio and we have used SM58 :)
have a nice day! ;)
P.S.
Condenser Mic barely used for vocals in stage.. only for drums/percussion/etc.. It's too loud and too sensitive for stage. :)
