Post by Bass Cone »

This song is about my best friends from when I was younger who I never see anymore.

The sun goes down and I wake up
Another blissful dream about how things should be
The same dream that's been on repeat
Every night haunting me while I sleep

The air is thick the sky is dark
And you were standing there by the park
The place were the memories were spent
Now they are all crushed by regrets

If I see you again will you remember me
All the time we spent living happily
Or will you pretend it was all a dream
and leave me here to watch the sun go down again

I need you more than life itself
More than blood running through my veins
Now as I stare at this empty wall
I realize the importance of life

Live you life to the fullest
Savor each moment and don't let go
Hold your best friends close
Never ever let them go

If I see you again will you remember me
All the time we spent living happily
Or will you pretend it was all a dream
and leave me here to watch the sun go down again

And I never wanted this to happen
I never wanted us to lose touch
but some things in life you can't control
Even the things too precious to let go

Will you remember me?
Will you remember me?
Will it be ok?
Will it be the same?

Will you remember me?
Will you remember me?
Will it be ok?
Will it be the same?
Will we ever be the same?

Nope.
she says it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat
she's always woried about things like that
she says it's all gonna end and it might as well be my fault
and she only sleeps when its raining
and she screams and her voice is straining

(chorus)
and she says baby
it's 3am I must be lonely
when she says baby
well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes
she says the rain's gonna wash away I believe it

she's got a little bit of something, God it's better than nothing
and in her color protrait world she believes that she's got it all
she swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to
and she only sleeps when its raining
and she screams, and her voice is straining
(chorus)

she believes that life is made up of all that you're used to
and the clock on the wall has been stuck at 3 for days, and days
she thinks that happiness is the mat that sits on her doorway
but outside its stopped raining
Pretty good song. I like it

/PD joke.

I like the song. I think you have the elements of a good song down. Don't ask what the "elements" are, because I don't exactly have examples... I just know that if I like it... it must have the elements of a good song there.

"The air is thick the sky is dark
And you were standing there by the park"

The first half of that line feels like a lyric that I once wrote (The air is humid, the lights are dim), and the second part kind of ruins it for me. I don't know if you were intentionally thinking of a park while you were writing the song, or if it just made sense due to the way it rhymed with dark. I'm not a fan of rhyming that much, and that line just feels forced. I love the song itself, but that second half of the line could probably be better... unless it was an idea already.

"I need you more than life itself
More than blood running through my veins
Now as I stare at this empty wall
I realize the importance of life"

The first line sounds like something I heard in a Cassino song (I need you more than I need myself).
The second line sounds like a line from a Brand New esque song.

Two more examples of why I really like your writing ability. I think you could be a really good songwriter. It actually sounds different than the normal Sum 41 wannabe lyricists on here (<3 to all of you). Of course, that isn't a stab against them, just saying that it's different sounding lyrics than the average lyric I hear on here.. most of it really is influenced heavily and sounds like it was influenced heavily by Sum 41. Just like on PD most of the lyrics are heavily influenced by Blink related music. Of course, you may be heavily influenced by Sum 41 too, it just doesn't sound like it in the song.
And I know I said I needed space,

but I know I can't be comfortable in my own skin.

So when I say I'm scared to be alone, you know I mean it,

I'm just not ready to leave my room.

Also, I only read this because it reminded me of Matchbox 20, and I was going to make a post remarking on the song by them... someone beat me to it.

Wow thanks for the post. And yeah I couldn't really think of a line after The air is thick the sky is dark so I put park because it rhymes and also signifies fun times as a kid. And this song really isn't influenced by Sum 41 at all. When I was writing it I was thinking of something like Brand New. The thing I like about that band the most are the lyrics

Dang, no n00dz.

Well. I was just waiting for someone with decent lyrics to pop out of the sand. I'm glad you're getting into Brand New. Have you downloaded all the albums? Sum 41 is a good riff band, imo, but I don't think the lyrics cut it. They tend to sound a bit uninspired in some of the songs. I don't know how to really word it up. I guess I just have gotten way to in to the whole descriptive thing with metaphors and similes and shit. who knows.

I haven't downloaded them all yet but i think I will tonight. And yeah I love Sum 41 for their melodies and Dave's awesome playing. I think the lyrics are good but in some songs they do seem weak.

imo, BN gets better with each album. The Devil & God = my fav. Deja = 2nd fav. YFW = not so much.
