Cone plays stuff different

hey, have u guys noticed that cone's bass lines a pretty shit in UH, but when u hear the bass on the live album performance u can tell that the bass lines a slightly more complex. for example, in walking diaster, the bit "now i've been gone for so long" cone plays 2 alternating notes then B, followed by F# insteaed of just playing EEEEEE B F#.
aslo in like CAFIMT the intro where they play F#F#F# loads of times cone's bass does kind of a run.

do u think deryck stopped cone from puttin these parts in the album or that cone just really didnt bother to think of them until playing live now, cos its a bit boring if he didnt?

in the making of UH video you could see that deryck did tell cone to change some bass lines. I also thought that the bass in UH was was shit. most of the stuff in it was follow the guitar. personally i though that the best lines cone came up with are in AKNF.

Yea I think Deryck had alot to do with this because on the making of UH you could hear a demo of CAFIMT and cone had this different riff there that I thought was cool and Deryck told him he sohould follow the guitar more

I never noticed much since I haven't been to a show yet and I don't really have an ear for bass. But it's good that he switches it up. I would definately fall asleep if I had to play those basslines from Underclass Hero every show.

I can understand why Cone tried putting in extra notes and whatnot during rehearsals and recording. If the guitar isn't going to do anything interesting, might as well let the bass roam free.

thats a good idea but i think they based UH more to focus on guitar and vocals and sorta tried to blend in the drum beats and bass riffs with each other or the bass would play along to rythm guitar which deryck would have pushed a bit

Yeah Cone's bass lines were really good on earlier stuff like AKNF. Playing stuff from AKNF is much harder than playing stuff from UH.

Best bass song for sum 41 I would say is Motivation. Funny how deryck didn't have a problem with cone going high on the bass for the pre chorus to the last chorus in motivation.
