Wow! Such an incredible rock record. After the first whole listen I only didn't get excited from Eat You Alive and I'm pretty sure it will grow on me soon.

Turning Away is pure fire, I could keep it on repeat for 3 days straight. Never There is still such a stand-out song for me - especially now when I know how it sounds in an LP. But there's sth to remember about almost every song.

In recent years I became more of a metalcore fan, like core sound, also more open to pop, ambient, synthizers and more experimental sound so I wasn't as pumped for a Sum 41 record as I used to be. Or maybe I'm just gettin old, but the music is just wow and I got reminded pretty quickly why the Sums has always been in my overall top 1.

Is the leak actually decent quality?

The leak is 320kbps mp3. I told the guy to upload Flac. He said he would do that but haven't heard anything. Not that it matters....release is a few days.

I must say tho, I really like all the new stuff thats going on on this record.
The incredibly low guitars, the synths, just different stuff. But a few songs are pretty damn boring with only fast power chords and atypical brownsound solo.

Some songs on this record are really good, Some are pretty bad i would say.

The only new songs that blew me away were:
Turning Away
The New Sensation
Catching Fire
Eat you Alive (Maybe)

I shouldn't have listened to any of the 4 singles. My greed have turned this into a anticlimax

But i really like Catching Fire so much (UH vibes)

I kinda feel the same. the leak I got was really good quality. Catching fire doesn't remind me of UH at all. It's a bit like exit song, but on steroids.

I like the album, although I can't say it blew me away, there's not an outstanding piece that I could highlight, but I will go through the whole thing a lot. :winkwink:

it's a solid album.. Everything fits perfect, everything sounds great..
Every song could've been a single..

It's my only real issue with the album. And a large part is really subjective and kinda comes down to chance too. Just sad there's only 10 songs though, cause it just makes me feel ideas can go unexplored because of that.

its a solid album but i feel there was not really a standout song. they were all pretty solid but nothing really differentiated itself

It's almost a little too cohesive

I was just listening to Never There and Catching Fire,
but then i went to UH and listened to With Me and Best Of Me.

I get that the vocals were recorded differently with a different mic or an effect that gives a thin mid/high kind of sound on the newer ballads, but my god Derycks clean voice has really changed.
It happened all of a sudden on SBM around 2011

Anyway, what i wanted to say was that his clean voice was so gorgeous and clear/clean during Underclass Hero. I wish his voice had stayed the same. Would sound so much better on stuff like What am i to say or the 2 on the new album.

I wonder what happened between the Underclass Hero days and the SBM era.
Are there more people that notice this?

I wonder if its just booze.
During the UH recordings the 3 of them were only drinking coffee or water, SBM was a total booze fest

Vocals on SBM are actually my favorite.

He uses a light fast vibrato and more rasp which works really well with SBM, Just like the vocals on UH work for that kind of sound, i just wish they could go back to songs like All Killer/Underclass Hero

I have loved the harder sound but its starting to get a little bit boring at times after SBM/13 Voices/OID.
It would be really refreshing if they would go ''major'' on more time, probably not going to happen tho

As the album is starting to be released worldwide, this thread continues to be the place for your thoughts and reviews about the album. The other Order In Decline thread is for interviews, articles, videos and all other Sum 41 stuff.

Is it just me or does the "Turning Away" chorus sound exactly like "Back where I Belong"? Other than that I really love the album. If only it had more songs...

It is a really good work, could be in my top 3 albums of them.
Turning Away in my opinion is so similar to Breaking the Chain the rhymes in the choirs are almost identical.
The new sensation is my favourite and i hope to listen to it live, I love the screams and voices in the background and I would like these riffs to become more important in the future of the band.
The People Vs... is really amazing a song with great force, striking and perfect to play it on stage.
By now the only song that i dont like and dont impresses me is Eat you alive (sorry guys), so simple and it is not the heaviest song that they have done as I could read in interviews.

I think it is the best work that Cone have made, Dave and Tom really good like always but the solos are so shorts, Deryck voice so good, brilliant in lyrics and very careful in production, Frank is much better live than in a record its sound sometimes does not stand out and is low

My top Order in Decline songs by now:
1. The new sensation
2. The People Vs...
3. Never There
4. 45 (A Matter of time)
5. A death in the family
6. Catching Fire
7. Out for Blood
8. Heads Will Roll
9. Turning Away
10. Eat you alive

4. A Death In The Family
5. Out For Blood
6. Never There
7 45 (A Matter Of Time)
8. Eat Your Alive
9. Heads Will Roll
10. The People Vs I really think this one sucks hard!

I love the production overall, but at times the kick drum and snare sound very stale, lifeless, kinda dry and dead or fake sounding....its hard to explain what i'm feeling when hearing it. But it bothers me, at other times it sounds great

The album is currently sitting at a 79 average and is on the front page of Metacritic.

I can't remember any of their albums being received as well by critics like this. DTLI and Chuck didn't even review this well (despite me loving them).

I'm happy for the band. It looks like their hard work has paid off.
