[Review] Frank Turner @ Helsinki, Finland

Post by TomiT14 »

I hadn't heard a single tune from Frank Turner when I saw him having a show here. But I've noticed that Jeremy keeps posting about him, so I figured he must be at least decent. So I decided to try a few songs, and fell in love instantly.

Unlike other concerts I've been to, this was purely to have some fun with friends. Not to pay much attention to songs or lyrics, just to dance wildly and having a good time. I didn't know too many of his songs, so that's part of the reason why I decided to just enjoy my night. :glad:

The show started with two of my favorites, Four Simple Words and The Road. Those songs got me in the mood right away, so I felt like dancing the whole show. Frank talked a lot between the songs, and had some sing-alongs aswell, so he really had the crowd going. The song I Still Believe, my other favorite, was a perfect way to almost end the show before the encore.

The crowd surprised me aswell. Moshpit was awesome, everyone in it had a good time, laughing and smiling and not taking it too seriously. And the crowd reaction during Photosynthesis, every one went down. It was so cool, every single one sitting on the floor, and in the middle of the song, we jumped up and started dancing wildly. So much fun!

So, not so much of a review, but I had a great time with Frank Turner, so I wanted to tell you that he's really worth checking out, even if you haven't heard of him.

The Setlist:

1. Four Simple Words
2. The Road
3. Peggy Sang The Blues
4. Reasons Not To Be An Idiot
5. Glory Hallelujah
6. Recovery
7. Wessex Boy
8. Substitute
9. The Real Damage
10. Tattoos
11. The Fastest Way Back Home
12. The Ballad of Me And My Friends
13. I Knew Prufrock Before He Got Famous
14. I Am Disappeared
15. One Foot Before The Other
16. Long Live The Queen
17. Try This At Home
18. I Still Believe
--Encore--
19. If Ever I Stray
20. Photosynthesis
21. Dan's Song

Tomi I thought you were Bobby when you posted those pictures on Instagram, so you can imagine how surprised/thrilled I was to know you were at a Frank Turner show. :glad:

He's great live. I saw him in the fall and I, regrettably, got too drunk and went home. I think he was out meeting fans right after his set right by the stage, there was a crowd of about 20 or 30 people. At least that's what my brother told me, haha.

In my opinion, he's one of the best live performers. Whether he's playing by himself or with his backing band, he always kills it.
