The Hobbit - Discussion

As we all know, this movie is soon going to be seen by many of us.

So far, the movie got kind of trashed by critics, they valued it to 62 out of 100, which is relatively low if you look at the previous movies. http://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-...pected-journey

However, more than 7,000 people on imdb gave it 9.2 out of 10, so it could be another Godfather pt.II, fans still loved it, critics not so much. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/

What do you think about the critical response, and the response made by normal people ? And how have all those people on IMDB manage to watch it yet?

Honestly? I never follow or read to much into reviews.

Gonna go watch this on 17th in HFR format, excited about that! Wish it'd only be in 2D and 48 fps too but this time can't avoid 3D.

I think that critics are usually wrong (for me at least). The thing they all kept moaning about was the 48 frames per second thing wich the viewers really seemed to enjoy.

The world premiere in New Zealand was the 28th of November.

Anyway i'm freaking excited about this... even if it sucks ... Martin Freeman is in it! haha :glad:

I agree with you, almost completely, however, I do believe that there are some critics who actually are totally unbiased, intelligent and good at what they're doing. Although, this is not the case, in one of them reviews the critic complained about Tolkien's storytelling skills, so it's obvious that he wasn't just covering the movie, but the books with it. And the other thing, saying that Tolkien can't write is bullshit in every single sense of the word. Many critics that tried to write some constructive criticism on the movie sound like POP fans trying to constructively criticize Socially Conscious Hip-Hop, which is simply impossible.

Oh, I thought this would be the case, but didn't check New Zealand, how stupid of me, I checked many countries, but not the one where the movie was made. Lame.

Well, I mostly watch movies that are in the top 500 on IMDB, that way, I'm at least partly assured that the movie won't suck. I mean, if you are going to watch a movie that has 100/100 from critics and 10/10 from people, you can expect to be amused much more than watching Twilight, which is getting trashed by both, critics and fans of movies.

For example, I wanted to watch the new Bourne film, I was afraid that it would not contain some of the things that I liked about the original trilogy, then my cousin who have seen that movie reviewed it to me, and told me that it lacked those things that I feared it would lack. My cousin saved me hours of boredom and despair.

I was awed when i seen Return of the King in theater, then Avatar blew that out of the water. I know The Hobbit will beat that.

My friend has been going on and on about this movie and since it comes out on my birthday I thought what the hell let's go watch it on a big screen. However I haven't read the book yet.

I don't know, in the last few years I just lost interested in LotR world... so, the new Man of Steel trailer before the movie is what I rather wait for. :D

im talking about the visuals. obviously LOTR (any of them), are superior to Avatar. i was entertained by the visuals.

ahhh... but i forgot the scene in the Sherlock Holmes 2 where they're running through the trees being shot at and its all slow mo and shit. that one scene was better than all of Avatar.

Man I loved Sherlock Holmes 2 for some reason.

I wouldn't listen to critics, the majority are elitist shit talkers anyway.

Should I read the book before I see Hobbit? I'm not too keen to see it ASAP. Never read Lord of the Rings either :(

I honestly thought he was talking about that Avatar Airbender movie because I forgot another existed. That's how highly I think of James Cameron's Avatar... And I haven't even see the Airbender one.

Personally, I enjoyed all the Lord of the Rings films. I also enjoyed Avatar, it was a fun film to sit back and watch.

I just don't enjoy those kind of films. I saw the first one, and it looked like a well made film, just not the type of film/story I enjoy.

If Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn were naked, that would fit your needs, I know that!

What format are you guys gonna see it in? I just got my tickets for the IMAX 3D showing Friday. I'm also pumped that they're showing a 9-minute preview of Star Trek Into Darkness for the IMAX shows.
