Coldplay

Post by samueeL »

Please no"Coldplay suxxx" posts!

We had one "What do you think about Coldplay" -thread but I thought it was time to make official one!
So any expectations for the new album? 3 studio quality songs out. I was personally pretty shocked after hearing their first single "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" since last time I heard about their new stuff they said that they're making more acoustic album. But now after couple weeks of listening I love that song. They seem to evolve on every album and their upcoming one definitely sounds nothing like they've done.

Every Teardrop is A Waterfall: (Amazing guitar riff!)

I don't understand where the hate for Coldplay came from anyway? When I was younger anyone of every age loved them, then they became some joke for no apparent reason. All their songs are pretty good, although I don't listen to them regularly.

They became a joke to some people because they used to go to awards shows and cockily claim that they were "the biggest band in the world". People don't like that shit. Also, they were met with some pretty substantial plagiarism claims, which they tried their best to ignore completely.

I think a lot of people I know are indifferent because they aren't really anything special - their sound most of the time lacks an edge, and they rely on pop hooks as their music's main strength in many ways.

Well, they're one of the biggest bands in the world, just saying the truth! And whole plagiarism thing was a big joke. Suing people over plagiarism is huge business now days. Even Deryck said in some interview couple years ago that people have tried to sue them hundreds of times. I wonder how many of my own songs are rip off of someone else's songs. How the hell could I know?

The plagiarism thing, it was obvious that the vocal line was influenced by that guitar line, but it wouldn't have been on purpose. He wouldn't have gone "hey this sounds cool, let's use it as a vocal line, no one will notice hehehehe", it was just in his deep memory so when he was writing he thought it was his own idea.

Also you seriously think they "tried their best to ignore" it?. That's bs, it would've been the biggest thing on their mind. They may have tried to keep it out of the public eye or something but no way would they just ignore it.

I think they were talking to a bunch of lawyers at the time! Since Viva La Vida was such a big hit, there would have been a lot of money involved.

Plagiarism is bullshit in the most of times. It's just... a musician hears so much music every day, so many artists, new, old,.. he remembers those songs, it's normal that there are some influences. But it's rarely plagiarism.

and to coldplay.. I don't mind them, and I don't love them, there are great songs from them around, I like them - Clocks, and others.. But I didn't hear every their song. I'll be sure to check their new record though. Sounds interesting.

It's kind of sad everything is turning electronic these days in music.
It doesn't feel authentic anymore.

Coldplay has gone in that direction...

chris martin's actually one of the most down-to-earth, modest, soft-spoken guys out there, especially given his status. after legit almost every song of his, he thanks the crowd profusely. watch some interviews, he's actually not cocky at all.

Dammit of course, I was going to write "Coldplay sucks" but of course the first thing you wrote suggested against it.

Well, you voted for the stronger artist, but Coldplay is still extremely boring. Props for admitting something like that on a Sum 41 fansite.

My complaint with Coldplay is that they're simply boring. I can listen to slow, acoustic music. I can't listen to Coldplay's "huge" sounding music. It sounds like it was meant to be blasted in ampitheatres, which it probably is, and it just has this overproduced "big" sound to it. It's like Angels & Airwaves to an extreme. It's boring, and it would sound so much better if it wasn't so overproduced.
And I know I said I needed space,

but I know I can't be comfortable in my own skin.

So when I say I'm scared to be alone, you know I mean it,

I'm just not ready to leave my room.
