In the bit where they're going down stairs from Steve's room there's a weird version of Handle This I've never heard before. Anyone know where it's from? Probably some demo or something, but

Living at home with your parents after one of your albums goes platinum in three countries. What a fucking rockstar.

That was probably the saddest episode of Cribs I've ever seen.

Well, they pretty much toured 362 days a year back then so it would have been stupid move to buy house immediately.

and bands don't make a lot of money from an album anyways. when a band goes to make and album, the label gives them say, 500,000 for studio time and equipment rentals. if they use all that, then whatever the band makes out of their share of sales of the album goes to pay back the label.

if an album sells for $17 at a store, it's really 12.75 after a 25% packaging deduction. add in a whole bunch of other deductions, like record label royalty, 3/4 royalty (where the label only gives the artist 3/4 because albums are considered "new technology", which is total BS), and the producers royalty. bands are lucky to get 1 dollar per album, which then goes to paying back that 500,000 the label lent them. anything after that is divided by the band. Deryck would get most because he's the principal song writer.

I remember reading somewhere that Sum 41 didn't get any money from All Killer for a good few months after it went platinum too, and that they were living on $200-a-week hand outs from the label for that whole Summer when they were one of the biggest bands in the world. Anyway, all episodes of Cribs are sad - it's couch potato, cabbage brain television.
