i've got another problem.

i bought the phone, but it was originally a Rogers phone. i have a Virgin Mobile SIM card and it's saying that the SIM card is unsuported for this phone.

is there a way to unlock this phone, be it jail break or whatever?

Look around for local cornershops/tech shops. They sometimes do unlocks. If not, you can download an unlock from the Internet.

The phone might have a sim lock.

In our country simlocks are supposed to stop working after 1 year, if they don't you can call the provider and ask for a code to unlock it.
If it isn't like that in canada you can always have someone else unlock it for about 5 dollars

Unlocking an iPhone is pretty easy... and free. It does mean you should avoid firmware upgrades until an unlock has been created for them tho.

Shops that sell iPhone unlocks pretty much always use these methods anyway - so I wouldn't go out and pay for it.

Hit me up on msn if you need talking through it.

What version of iOS is it running?

Just look around on a few phone websites. Read some reviews on both.

I've jailbroken mine. Voids the warranty obviously and if you fuck with it too much you can brick it but if youre sensible it can be really useful. loads of sweet stuff.

It's just one added icon, nothing that bothers me that much. I've got an iPhone from Slovakia so I had to unlock, our operators canceled activations, I think there's some law in our country, one of a few good ones.

I jailbroke my ipod, didn't have that many supercool features.. So I'm not gonna take that risk with my iPhone

it is running the newest one (4.3.2) i believe. i tried unlocking it yesterday, but when i inserted my SIM card from my other phone it just said "searching" and didn't update. but the part in the About menu that use to say "Rogers wireless" now says "Bell". i thought it might work now (cause Virgin Mobile and Bell are affiliated), but it didn't. im gonna try once more and then take it to the Virgin Mobile stand and ask them for a new Sim card/ swap.

and warranty isn't really a concern, cause i bought this iphone used so i pretty much have no warranty.

EDIT: i've already tried "ultrasn0w" and "pwnagetool"

The newest baseband isn't unlockable yet, but there's every chance you can downgrade it.

Also, get your iOS version number from Settings > General > About

Using pwnage tool is only for devices that are already jailbroken.

You need Redsn0w:

Mac
Windows

run that to jailbreak, I'm looking into baseband downgrading now ;)

Once you've jailbroken it, Open cydia and it might ask you if you want to save SHSH blobs, Press yes, if it does not... there may be some green text at the top of it's home page saying
"SHSH: iOS x.x.x" ect. Post what it says ;)

*EDIT* There is a way around the unlocking problem, but it breaks the GPS functions.

(Not perminantly break, I should add, as soon as you install a legit baseband again it will return, this method is just to get the phone into a useable state.)

In order to do this you need to do something to do with installing an iPad baseband... then you can install ultrasn0w from cydia... still looking into this...

i read somewhere that there isn't an unlock for that version yet, so is it possible to downgrade this?
