ipod touch no volume bar

1st gen ipod headphone cord got caught getting off the bus and it dropped under the bus. Ever since ive had either no or randomly appearing and dissapearing volume controls. Everything else works fine but im pretty sure its fucked for sound, just wondering if anyone had suggestions of how to possibly fix it.

i've had this problem before, except that i left my ipod in the car on a hot summer afternoon and almost cooked it.
simply hold down the power and home buttons and restart it. should be fixed.

tried that and even completely restoring it, but still nothing. i think its something physical inside.

thats odd, sorry dude. i think if you send it to apple, they may fix it or something. check out their website.
edit: wait. it's first generation? fuck it dude, buy a new one (4th gen) or wait a few months for 5th gen.
