TNS Interview With Sum 41: February 2011

Post by Nic »

TheresNoSolution.com will be interviewing Sum 41 on February 16th at their show in Madrid, Spain. To keep things interesting for the band, try to think of some bad-ass questions that the guys haven't been asked yet and post them in this topic. We all know Sum 41 doesn't want to hear questions asked over and over in generic interviews. If you speak Spanish, please post them on TNS: Español. Thanks to Adrián, TNS: Español admin, for getting us the interview.

Shoot away, Skumfuks!

- are there any kind of special of special instruments on this album, like the violin in so long goodbye or the trumpets in koc?

-when will you release the tracklist? (if it hasn't been released by then)

-when will the music video for SBM appear?(if it hasn't been released by then)

-are you going to release a lot of bonus tracks/ b-sides?

Will post a few more later on..

Tell them that the show in The Netherlands was epic and that we hope to see them again soon!
Also tell them that SBM and Skumfuk are amazing!

Yeah, like blackhawk I'm interested in songs that didn't make the cut. Any plans for them?

well, I thought about not so frequent questions and found out there's not lot of them in my mind :D but something came up:

-Was the single cover planned shot, or Brown Tom just passed out? ( :hehe: )
-Are there going to be another dates announced in Q1 2011? (Matt told me in Vienna that they're going to Czech in February/March)
-What's going to be the second single?
-How much did they think about an email from managment (New Year's resolutions)? ( :hehe: )
-The best gig of 2010. (don't think they'll remember, I just can't think of any other :D)

And in addition of Mitchell's post, I think you can tell them that European 2010 tour was amazing, I visited 3 shows and all of them were fucking badass. Althought in Prague Deryck suffered a big pain I think, you could see it in update where he was laying on his back at the backstage before an encore.. So tell him he's tough guy!

I asked him that when they were in Finland.

-Asked about the song Deryck was going to give away free like a year ago. He didn't remember what song that was, since he's tried to get songs released couple of times already.

Here's a few questions I've thought about.

1. How many songs did you record for the new album, and how many will there be on it (including bonus tracks etc)?
(Don't bother asking this if the tracklisting has been released by Feb 16)

2. I was at the show in Gothenburg, it was awesome to finally see you guys live! What did you think of Sweden and the gigs you did there?

3. Will you come back to Sweden when you tour in support of the new album?

4. Why oh why do you never play Hooch live!?

5. Deryck; How did you get the nickname Bizzy D?

6. Stevo; Where does the 32 in Stevo 32 come from?

7. Deryck & Cone; Have you ever thought about shaving your heads?

8. Tom; What's the status on the new Gob album?

Guess that's it for now, will post more if I come up with any. If anyone knows the answer of #5 and #6, don't bother asking them.

Dave called him Bizzy D once cause Deryck was always busy doing stuff for the band.. it just stuck after that..

32 used to be Steve's waist size...

i read that somewhere, apparently he's bad sports and the 32 is a number that good players have, must be hockey or yankee football

Yeah, I remember the sports thing with Stevo32. I think the waist size story came later? Either way, I've heard both before.

I'll try and think up some cool Q's for tomorrow. I can't think right now.

Are you happy with SBM ? (yeah, might be a stupid question, but to me Deryck has never been really pleased with its records, espacially Chuck)

(if the tracklist is released by then) What song was the hardest to write?

Where'd the inspiration come from for the "SBM" title?

possibly more to come later....

Since nobody can figure it out for sure: What does the first line in Skumfuk say?
How many possible B-sides are still floating around?
Where is Dipple? He used to be around all the time.
Any plans for a second single before the album comes out?
Will they do an online release party/performance when the album comes out (this time a real one without post-record editing and auto-tuning, may be somewhere with an audience)?
How/where will the "Making of" footage be released/aired?
Will they add my super awesome "I'd rather be touring" sticker to their merch shop?

That reminds me: Someone should dig up that topic I made with all the questions that have been answered before. I was planning on keeping it up to date and adding all the old questions, collect new ones and have them sent to Matt, but I'm just a lazy bastard. They should release something like that as a Sumfourtipedia.

I can pretty much already hear the answers Deryck will be giving:

1. About 14 songs total depending on which region you live in and which bonus songs you will get.

2. They were awesome, we love Sweden.

3. We don't actually do the tour planning ourselves, but we would love to come back.

4. I guess we never really liked to play that song live.

Hopefully all the questions are album related...

1.) How many tracks will be on the album?

2.) We all guess the 12 minute song won't release before the album anymore. Can you prove us wrong?

3.) Will the album have parental advisory? Blink-182's self titled album said fuck twice throughout the whole thing and has parental advisory.

4.) When will there be a headlining US tour for SBM? Summer?

5.) Will your setlist surpass at least 70 minutes or so? (I'm sorry 50 minutes does not count as a full set)

6.) How many ballads or slow songs are on the new record?

7.) Do you guys think you can have the popularity you had during AKNF again? or is the mainstream standard too fucked up with pop and rap for this to be possible?

8.) I don't know know if you guys know this but many TNS members love No Brains and Mr. Amsterdam and wish you would play those live as frequently as you do most other DTLI songs.

9.) When will there be a video for SBM?

10.) When will a second single be released?

here's a few question ideas:

1. deryck, i saw in an interview about the new album that you mentioned potentially doing an acoustic album at some point in the future. i was a huge fan of the acoustic bonus ep that came w/ "chuck" and was wondering how serious you are about pursuing this solo side project.

2. deryck, have you noticed that your most badass albums (dtli and chuck) featured you with dyed black hair. i noticed your hair is black again, and sbm sounds like it's definitely gonna be badass. coincidence? i think not. this being said, NEVER GO BACK TO BLOND AGAIN.

3. did you guys copyright your first songs when you were an upcoming band? because i was thinking of shipping out a demo to various labels, but i don't want my work to get ripped off. advice?!
