Sum41.com Make Over / Suggestions?

Post by Nic »

The official band website, Sum41.com, will soon be completely re-done by a new web-building company rather than the record label. I have been asked for suggestions and ideas on how the new site can be made hella rad. Please post your suggestions and ideas here so I can get them back to the band in the next few days.

I'm not sure if they still have the Slagbook anymore, but I suggest ditching it in favor of TNS being the "official" Sum 41 community. It seems like a ballsy thing to suggest though and if it happened, we'd be getting a bunch of fanboys and fangirls up the yin-yang. It would be pretty awesome though.

They need to update the photo and video galleries and if not, just have a link to their YouTube page.

I'm not sure what else to say really. Their website has pretty much all the essentials, but it's so cluttered and disorganized. It just feels messy.

Are they requesting graphical suggestions too?

1. Would be great to get a different layout each time we visit their web site.
2. I would like if possible to get from the new graphics of their web site some previews of the covert art of SBM.
3. Would be cool if the guys could do more contests within sum41.com like winning backstage passes etc... Or chances of meeting the band, why not?

4. Also I don't like that kind of flash mp3 player located in their homepage. It's playing we're all to blame at first everytime I visit sum41.com, would be great to make it maybe random?

I remember on their old site they had rare songs from their early days that you could download. It would be nice if they could bring those back.

When I look at this thread I cannot help but think of my education. I study something called "informatics" here in Sweden, and it's about implementing new systems. That's exactly the case here; Sum 41 want a new website. We're asked to give suggestions for new content, but one thing we must have in mind here is that Sum 41's new website should not only satisfy us fans, but possible new fans as well. So, I look at this through two perspectives.

If I were not a fan, I would like the following to be found on the website.

1. Most importantly; Information about the music, their albums etc
2. Band biography and band member biographies
3. A contact section.
4. A (better) media player where I can listen to some of their songs.
5. A photo gallery and video section.
6. A "downloads" section, with wallpapers, icons etc.

Now, as I'm already a fan I don't really care about the above. Instead I'd want this;

1. A good news blog, with rather frequent updates.
2. A tour section.
3. A reliable store section.
4. A Q&A section.
5. Other possible sections...

More or less everything above exists on the current website, but I think you get my point. Sorry if this sounds like an analysis, but I simply couldn't resist! Anyway, my suggestions are;

1. Metallica had (or have?) a function on their website where you could change the layout of the website with the theme of each album the've released. Something like that would be cool.
2. Some sort of voting poll.

That's all I can think of right now. Will post more if I can think of any!

-New music player, with shuffle ON and including more than just the singles.
-Band biography, along with member biography for each member. (Member bio could also have an interview for questions like favorite Sum-song, music I listen to, favorite band, equipment etc.)
-They have a shitload of pics and vids throughout the years. Why not having them on their site?
-Tour date archive. Their site in Chuck era had it.
-Proper, easy-to-use Q&A-section.
-Contests (although it might be a part of the upcoming Resident Skumfuk thing?)
-Polls (e.g. "what older song would you like to hear live?")
-Merch store.
-Wallpapers, screensavers.
-Link to TNS.

Along with the other suggestions already mentioned.

I would LOVE to do something like that with TNS. It would take a fair amount of work, but it's not hard to implement. (It would also require Nic to knock 5 or 6 designs together :S )
