Not sure, but why won't he just sing normal like in the Paint It Black cover? The backing vocals for the CD versions of the songs are sort of what he's trying to do, but Dave always sang normal live and it sounded much better.

He's just putting too much effort in it.

You remember the UH-live show they did on their site, right?

He did an amazing job back there, doing the backings for Walking Disaster etc.

They sounded awesome, because he could just sing and he didn't need to shout in that studio.

It's a different story when he's standing in front of thousands of people, I guess.

Lol, his vocals sounded awful in that. He used auto-tune.

I think he sounded better with the auto-tune than he does live right now.

That's just my opinion. Not saying he has to use the AT live though.

Are you serious? Listen to it again. Nothing sounds good with auto-tune. That's just fact.

Do you like the way he's singing right now live?

And it's not fact, it's opinion.

yeah I was a bit surprised during the live show that he sounded that way. I think he's shouting to much or something because thats not how his voice normally sounds

i like how you choose the video when they first got back together and tom didnt have time to adjust to his blink sounding voice. once they got out on tour for awhile and he got used to it, he sounded better. basically every video of browntom, he sounds like straight shit.

Sounded like Tom was trying to sing like that on purpose.

That performance made me cry inside. It is sad enough that all studio vocals these days are manually tuning corrected but when I heard Deryck and Tom sing with auto-tuning on their voices, I actually wanted to throw up in my pants for real.
The day Sum 41 starts using auto-tune at real live shows, will be the day I start sending them bodyparts of myself until they stop. That cannot and will not happen.

Auto-tune can sound good when it is used as an intentional soundeffect, but never when it is used to correct sloppy singing. End of discussion!

And this guy got it:

That is the whole problem in a nutshell. As I said in another topic before: You can't sing that high and powerful at the same time without sounding ridiculous, at least not the average rock band singer. So you have to make a choice: Either high and gentle or powerful and in an alternative pitch, like Dave did.
