I own every sum 41 album and watch them every time they come to town. I love all their work but I have to say that this album is dissapointing as hell. It's just not good. I mean, Half hour of power was a solid punk/rock album, AKNF was a deadly high paced "screw society" rock album, Infected was just a sick offspring type album, and i thought CHUCK was their best work. When you hear a band mature through out their albums, you dont wanna hear them to start complaining about their parents, and sing about how messed up society is as they did in AKNF, they did that once. They grew up on metal and hard rock, and you can hear influences of it in their previous work. It's like they had no motivation for this album. They definitley crossed the emo line here. The songs are also just poorly built too.

You have heard, at most, 4 songs from this album. How can you fairly say that this album is disappointing?

And they've run about 5 miles from the emo line. They were about to cross it on Chuck.

I don't understand how people class a certain type of music emo, cause if emo music was really music around an emotion then thaat would make every song is this goddamn world emo,

And for the other sterotype of emos out of the Sum 41 songs from the new album I have heard nothing bout commiting sucide,

And if any of there albums were to be classed as emo I would agree with Phili,

Plus, how you can say the songs are built poorly, there fuckin awesome and I think almost everyone in this forum will agree with me... I hope :S and I know it's your opioion but quite frankly why fuckin moan that it's crap when it's not even been released even though I think this is gonna one of the best albums of all time

i am also a little dissapointed in the previews as well, the style is different but i would not classify it as emo music, just poor pop-rock. I'll still buy it anyway cause they are my favorite band.

like all music, they are created from emotions. There's nothing wrong with that. They aren't screaming or running with an general idea of dread or despair, so why would you classify them as emo, only because the PREVIEWS aren't as hard driven as the last 2 albums?

This album is just a fresh start, and sounds like their earlier releases because that's the last time they felt the same way.

calling things emo is just like calling a band a sell-out when they put out something new: complete ignorance and stupidity. LEARN HOW TO CLASSIFY SOMETHING WITH DECENCY, OPEN YOUR F'N MIND TO OTHER TYPES OF MUSIC, UNDERSTAND THE LINK BETWEEN MUSIC AND THE LISTENER, AND STOP NEGATING THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.

you're just another product of the next generation's dissolution and ignorance, and i mean it in the most sincere way, and i hope i'm not offending you. Hopefully the semiotics behind your ruptured oedipal cycle will resolve...

lets not start an internet fight over this, as most of the people commenting on this subject dissagree at least with your emo classification.

I liked most of the songs.
It is not really fair to judge whether you like the new album or not by 45 second clips, and a total of 3 or 4 complete songs.
I already think I have 2 favorites lol.

But Sum 41 being/nearly being/converting to Emo?
I never thought they were even close to it. At least the bands that are considered emo or consider themselves emo. Sum 41 do not sound like any of them..But what do I know? lol

Im a tiny bit dissapointed because I thought their was gonna be faster songs.

^For me, the speed is a good thing, because I think if they were all as fast as King Of Contradiction, I wouldn't like the album.

As a hardcore Sum41 fan since day one growing up near Ajax, I was sad (and holding onto it inside and not telling anyone) that I wasn't very happy with Underclass Hero and then how it was similar sounding to Walking Disaster.
I couldn't believe that after almost four years of waiting and waiting for a new CD, what we got was a rip off of Subject to Change, a great song on its own right, but one I already knew the lyrics for, and had been singing to for a looong time.
And then some of the verse patterns were the same as Fat Lip, and that hurt too. (Attention that we crave, don't tell us to behave... It's us against them, we're hear to represent...)

But then the 45 second clips renewed my confidence in the amazing band they are.

This IS an evolved band. Slower, more mature songs, that incorporate different instruments including the insert of the piano which is something we were just barely introduced to in Chuck.

They still have the punk sound in some songs for fans, and there are new topics never written about before that stop the band from going stale.

They just released the wrong songs, but who cares? Look forward to a wicked cd full of talent July 24.

you can't say that the album is not so good because you didn't hear the half of it.

in my opinion I think it will be their best work

Ya i gotta say it was kinda dissapointing so far
i expected a little more but the one thing i cant stand is the song best of me!! Probably will go down as one of the worst sum 41 songs ever made. I have to say i really did like pull the curtain and confusion and frustraion in mondern times. THe rest was just average nothing special about it. Leave best of me off the cd and u have a decent cd with a few good songs.

Have you guys heard the whole album? It is their best work, it's amazing. Deryck definitely pulled his weight on the guitar.
