UH seemed very... pushed to me. I don't know if that was the right word. Majority of the lyrics were bleh and the chord progressions were pretty much the same in every song. In this album I feel like they captured the dark feel that MCR has always had in their music, thus resembling MCRs sound. I think Avril had a lot of influence over Deryck at that time so honestly I feel like UH is an infusion of Avrils album at the time and the darkness Deryck was trying to capture. Creating this ice cream coated bleeding heart effect. I think he really grasped the darkness and his inner demons this time around. Jessica Kill would be the only song on this album I'd say SOUNDS like Sum 41. Everything else in the vein of Sum 41 but it's new, it's fresh. Love the album.

After my useless rant what I mean to say is, the album has sounds of MCR and Oasis all through it.
Well said. haha, yeah the progression used in the hell song was totally overused in underclass hero.
what was it... G#, E, B, F# ?

I'm more sick of seeing THE OFFICIAL ............ THREAD being created lol

than seeing Sum 41's musical style thrown against other bands, as if a band can own a musical genre.

The piano intro of crash (before he sings) some what gives me a blink vibe...

Then the beginning vocals give me an early 2000's pop rock vibe.

This doesn't take away from the magic to it though =)

Like someone posted here before, Back Where I Belong has a strong Linkin Park-vibe, imo.

Not one song in particular, it's just a Linkin Park-sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3TACZW6aig They are similar, but i think its pure coincidence, because thats the only thing thats similar. it only sounds the same becasue they are whispering.
Palm mute guitar + vocals whispered added to normal voice + bass drum beating, without snare + lyrics (I suppose) + similar rythm of vocal (no time for breathing) = probably more than a coincidence

By the way, the sharpest lives is a great song.

I think that Back Where I belong sounds more like Count your last blessings

This topic is pure shit. It's pointless and most of you just said bullshit.
Why this need to compare with other things?

I am sorry for my sincerity. Just can't help/hold myself when I see stupid talking...

What's wrong with comparing? I can't see what so horrible in this thread. People shouldn't get angry if someone compares your favorite band's songs with other songs. It doesn't mean they stole them, at least knowing Sum 41. Deryck just listens to old shit.

umm yeah, as I said I hate this kind of topic. But what came to my mind when I heard the new Skumfuk intro is.. something from AFI. Don't know what though... I mean first 15 seconds.

Nah, that intro gave me more of a Nirvana vibe... It could have been on one of Nirvana's albums and expanded upon.

I felt a Nirvana vibe in the intro of Skumfuk as well.

i don't listen to a lot of oasis so i can't make comparisons to them, but i've read some of the posts here and i agree with the intro of reason to believe sounding like the intro to the first track in the afi cd sing the sorrow, just the drums. deryck's voice does remind me of mcr in the beginning of holy image of lies up until the solo/riff thing, and during the chorus of skumfuk. i hear a little bit of a similarity to muse when deryck sings really high in blood in my eyes, and a little bit of similarity to green day in baby you don't wanna know, but just in vocals. as for instruments, i also agree with the guy who said that the solo/bridge thing sounds a lot like a7x, and even some of the vocals when deryck actually sings "happiness machines".

otherwise, i find the rest of the album very original. i don't see a big similarity between sick of everyone and prayer of the refugee at all. the closest i've heard sum 41 to sounding like linkin park was back in chuck, i think it was i'm not the one, and the verse of no reason sounding like one step closer, but i usually don't make the comparison of sum 41 to linkin park.

the vocal melody in the piano outro Reason to Believe sounds like the vocal melody in Monkey Brains by Our Lady Peace.

So, everyone pretty much agrees that the drums at the start of Reason to Believe are similar to (if not, exactly) like the drums in the second verse of With Me. Did anyone notice how at the start of the acoustic version of Reason to Believe the strum pattern is just like the strum pattern in With me?

I noticed that, though it wasn't remarkable. It feels like the reverb is different
