I think the song is absolutely amazing. The style, the tone... it's been perfected.

At first I was wondering, okay what is going on in this video... Then when SpongeGar showed up I realized this felt more like a Sum 41 music video than we've seen in 10 years. Bravo

This was definitely not something I was expecting - video content wise! Haha. For some reason, it takes me back to the Hell Song video. And what's bugging me is I swear I've saw Dave post that Nyan Cat meme (Yes, I did look up the title of it!) on his Instagram before, but doesn't appear to be there now? Maybe I'm imagining it, but he does post a bunch of memes. Anyway, so thankful we got an official release because playing the song continuously all day without one felt SO wrong! The Sums are definitely rising, and this is their year.

I'm finding out now that apparently it's been done by the same director as the Hell Song, Fat Lip, and In Too Deep videos!

So according with the Sum 41 facebook this is not the first single, it's just a song with a video...
Today is the day, we can’t wait any longer! You guys have been so patient and so awesome. We wanted you to have this, even though we’re still putting the final touches on the album and haven’t officially picked the first single yet... a new song with a video so you can see what the fuck we’re up to these days! Thank you all for being so patient! This one is for all the skumfuks! '13 VOICES' will be screaming on OCT. 7! - deryck

This coincides with Gnarkill's story where the band said the first single might be Goddamn, I'm Dead Again. I'm hoping that's the case. I was confused this morning when I saw all this talk about Fake My Own Death.

I did not expect to see so many memes in this video. It kind of follows the "serious song, funny video" that they used to do in the past for some songs, like We're All to Blame.

EDIT:

I pretty much listened to the song all day at work. The current play count is 117, haha. I took breaks and listened to the new Blink album, but I kept coming back to Fake My Own Death. I have to say that the verses are my favourite part of the song. A lot of energy in the vocals and it's always a mindfuck when I listen to a new Sum 41 song and I have trouble recognizing Deryck's voice. The Killer Queen cover and Skumfuk are examples of songs that had the same affect on me.

It's nice to see a proper track listing on iTunes with the times on it. Pretty much all the songs are around 3 minutes. Twisted by Design (the last song) is around 5 minutes, so it makes me think it'll maybe be like a mini-Dark Road Out of Hell or something similar to 88.

iTunes also lists track 7 as "War Mary," which I find kind of strange since it was originally posted on social media as just "War". So maybe iTunes goofed?

Agree with you Jeremy about the story of Gnarkill, and there's a track length on iTunes?

I like this song more than anything off SBM (and I still liked that album quite a bit). Some parts seemed a bit recycled from their previous work, but that's bound to happen at this point in their career. All in all, the song (and video) were pretty cool. Definitely better than blink's new stuff IMO, but then again I'm less into pop-punk these days and more drawn to heavier, darker music.
All that I need is time for me to breathe. Dream little dreams that only I believe. Now that I see beyond the light, I'm gonna be, I'll be alright.

Hopeless posted the lyrics to the song in the description box of the music video on YouTube.
Spoiler: show
all bets are off but you still think that you've gotta a right well
you're lucky days are numbered now
(and your to blame)
you built a castle of sand.
shaking the devil's hand well
at least i've still got my soul to sell.

you've got to take me away
cause i wanna feel (wanna feel)
something that's real (thing that’s real)

help me escape cause i wanna be
(I’ll take my last breath)
left to be free
i just wanna fake my own death

you played your part of the whore
you got some kinda nerve or
have you forgot i don't forget
(and your too late)
you walk beside the dead where
the angels never tread well
at least i've still got a soul to sell.

you've got to take me away
cause i wanna feel (wanna feel)
something that's real (thing that’s real)

help me escape cause i wanna be
(I’ll take my last breath)
left to be free
i just wanna fake my own death

there's nowhere to run
from hell and above
i swear to a god that someday
there will be blood.

it all comes down in the end in spite of me you do it all again.
it all comes down in the end in spite of you I’ll do it all again.

you've got to take me away
cause i wanna feel (wanna feel)
something that's real (thing that’s real)

help me escape cause i wanna be
(I’ll take my last breath)
left to be free
i just wanna fake my own death

Awesome video. I love how they can still have fun. Very Sum 41.

I kinda dislike the sound mixing of Deryck's voice, because it has a distorted/radio filter on it, especially at the beginning and the 2nd verse. Sounds unnatural to my ears. But he already used it frequently on SBM, so I guess he likes it.

Well, and the Chorus sounds like many of all the other Sum 41 choruses, concerning the chord/harmony changes. But that's the Sum 41 Style and I'm okay with that. I hope they'll keep up the heavy riffing as in this song.

I really dig the song. The chorus just couldn't be more Sum 41 and it's absolutely exciting that there's probably 9 more to come(excluding bonus tracks)! The riff is powerful, the vocals have balls. The only thing a bit out of place might be the flanger guitar when the drums kick in - but that's just stupid nitpicking and fuck that. Overall it brings us promise of an amazing album, maybe the best yet?

Yeah, on Itunes you can see track times for the whole album.. Twisted By Design seems like the uber-epic closer and I think the title track will be really interesting with lots of different parts, since it clocks in 4 minutes and a half. Looking good! :)

I am enjoying the track more and more with each listen. Glad we have it.

In addition to the video, the band also posted pre-orders. You can find that information here: https://theresnosolution.com/en/viewtop ... 57&t=15716
