I was reading an article detailing all the Deryck stuff and it said that Dave expressed an interest to rejoin the band in the AltPress piece from a few months back? Is that true? I didn't get to read it.

I'd love to see him and Steve play with Deryck and Cone again. The sound of the four guys on stage together back in the day was just immense.

As cool as Tom is, i must agree that when Dave was in the band the stage-presence the guys had was so immmense. Im not sure about them sounding better (Dave did do some cool metal-influenced stuff though), but check out Mr. amsterdam from the sake bombs and happy-endings for example, and one simply can't deny that the energy on stage is just awesome. Now, I understand that the guys are older and deryck has his back-problems and all but still... =P

i understand what you're saying. in those early days of touring we were destroying ourselves every night. i felt like i was a 90 year man every day. but when you're young, you're also kind of stupid. haha at least we were, and we ignored all the aches and pains and didn't do anything prevent future problems, like my back. we just jumped through the pain. now that my back is an issue, i have to do anything i can to protect it from getting any worse because the amount of pain i live with when it's out, is unmanageable. and i can't tour. i would love to jump all over the place. i still have the same old energy i had when i was 19, i just have to think like a 35 year old when i'm out there now, smart. haha

I've no doubt it'll be one heck of a show - can't wait to see you guys perform again one day. The one show I saw at Helsinki a few years back (tour with Black Pacific and couple of other bands) was one of the best I've ever been at - hope you'll enjoy your show as much as your fans do.

My girlfriend whose a HUGE MCR fan almost cared about these shows as much as I did. And us and another friend were almost considering flying across the continent to see the shows :P

I have to ask Deryck, with the new tele (Fender Thinline) is it just a regular Thinline with, I would assume the JB pickup you used in the TeleDeluxe, or is it a different one? Also, I was wondering if it was a semi hollow body or if it was just a fake F-hole like Josh Farro from Paramore had in one of his signature guitars?

1st off i love your excitement for these shows and 2nd i love you question about gear! i originally had fender send me the thinline because i wanted to try it out in the studio. because i already have so many tele's with the JB's obviously and i wanted something a little different. what i found was they were totally different than i expected and they were actually kind of heavy sounding. when i plugged in to my live rig and started using it for rehearsals you couldn't really tell the difference from my other tele's. (slightly but nothing crazy). so now the real test is playing it at these 3 club shows i'm doing. i really liked it last night. it's really light weight which is great for me on stage. and sounds huge. although i think i will put the jb's in. everything always sounds better with jb's

Here is the set list from the first show.

I really like what I'm seeing with those picks. (Summer, Handle This, No Reason, ect. Just wish it had a little more SBM tracks that didn't get as much play as they deserved the last time! i.e.: Reason to Believe, Blood in My Eyes, Baby You Don't Wanna Know. Time For You To Go is a personal favourite so it'd be interesting to see it played for the first time. Maybe one day!) Is it not subject to change at all for the next few following shows, Deryck? Just wondering, although, I know it's just a little warm up. From what I can tell though, it looks like a good time had by all. I wish California was closer, but I have hopes you'll return to Ontario soon! I know the excitement and turnout over these shows will have you feeling like you can get up there and do this every night again!

Are we sure there was ever even a break? ;) Deryck, you sound, and look as if you never left that stage. But, I'm not surprised by this! I expected to see something as amazing as that performance was. You guys brought it! And if a little clip tells me that much, I couldn't imagine the energy in that room. If only I were to have been there for it!

great performance!
And speaking of jumping around on stage.. The only thing I did miss while watching this, was the little jumping bit during the breakdown. That was always my fav. part of that song's live performance.
but hey.. who the hell cares when it sounds that fuckin awesome!

i would have loved to play some more songs. but the reality is i'm in the middle of writing and recording for the new sum 41 album and we only had 3 rehearsals to learn about 19-20 songs. there's about 3 in the medley. we're going to try some other songs in the short sound check that we have at the casbah tonight. so it might change a bit tonight. once sum 41 gets back up and touring, set lists will start to change more. i have some ideas to play songs that we haven't really played in a while. i'm looking forward to it. and yes the point of these shows was to just get back in the groove of playing and see how i feel playing a full set of songs. it's like running a marathon. i got train a little bit first.

Oh, I totally get it; these solo shows really crept up so quickly, and before you know it, you'll be hitting the APMAs stage! I just wasn't sure if out of those 19-20 songs you rehearsed some that were going to be played on another night. Watching some footage, it's like you never left the stage. Your resilience continues to impress me. And I look forward to what you have in mind for the upcoming Sum 41 shows!
