Craziness in Berlin

Post by Hoocher »

Hello there!

Well I don't know how much of you know me or even a bit interested in hearing this but despite that I'd like to share with you my adventure.

So, I live in Israel. Basically I was about to join the army on August 1st though it got delayed. After reading Tomi's amazing story I got so hyperactive and jelous! I wanted to experience that, it sounded amazing in his story.

I've been a dedicated fan since the release of DTLI?. Alhough, it was my first show. I convinced my parents, ordered a ticket to the show and took off to berlin on August 5th, a day before the show.

In order to make sure where the hell it's going to happen I took my first morning as an opportunity to look it up. When I got there, a big black bus arrived. Expecting to see one of the guys there, I was disappointed to only see some 2 drivers or something.

The venue:

Returned to the hotel, charged up my energy and got to the venue around 6:10 pm. As the show starts at 8:00 pm I though I'd be wise and get there alot earlier to get a good spot, though when I got there, there were already like 30 people hanging near the enterance. I thoguht there's a line and I am fucked, but I was wrong, they were basically to lazy to stand right by the door so they just sat around on the stairs and stuff, so I guarded the door :).

7:00 pm, legs start to bother me though I'm still cool, the doors are opened and I get in the first two. Since I already have my ticket and the one who got before me printed or something they took my request to get in first and turned her to some booth. I got in saw the merch booth and got a shirt as fast as I could. Picture:

So I got a great spot at the first row, quickly changed to the new shirt and leaned against the fence. The security took my water bottle at the enterance and it was really hot in there. After reading Tomi's second story I was really afraid of getting dehydrated. I noticed there was a bar behind me but I wanted to keep my spot as people kept coming.

8:00 pm, the show begins? wrong, the warm up band shows up, a band called Plus Guest. Although my legs were aching as fuck I did my best in staying alive. The warm up band was actually pretty good, I even ended up buying their CD after the show. They gave a hell of a performance.

The warm up band got off and the crew began to re-arrange the stage. Around 9:30 pm, The Sums finally got on stage starting with the kickass drumroll of Reason to Believe. The crowd went nuts.

As the band reaches their fourth song on the setlist, We're All To Blame, as Deryck does always he decided to extend the bridge in order to pick a few people to see the show on stage. My new shirt was damn helpful, I got picked third!!!. The whole thing is caught in my camera :). It was pretty epic, my first show and I get to see it on stage. After getting there Cone saw me and reached to give me a hug, it was awesome (yup still not gay XD). After that the show went on.

After a couple more songs my camera's memory card was full so I was forced to use my lame phone's camera. But I got like half the show and the "picking me up on stage part" on the good camera and also a couple of still shots so I'm fine.

The crew on stage gave us (people who were picked) the band's official pick:

The crowd was insane. Security had to kick a lot of people out for crowd surfing, and items throwing. They were running at each other, fogoing, screaming, sweating. IT WAS AWESOME! someone at the end of the show even threw a Canadian flag on Deryck, I saw him taking it with him so maybe he's keeping it.

It was an amazing experience which I will always cherish and be thankful for. It is quite funny that all I cared about was the show and less about the rest of my trip in Berlin. Oh well.

The entire show can be found here:

Glad to hear your first Sum show turned out great! Not to mention, one you weren't planning on even going to! I still don't know how you all travel to places you've never been and manage to have everything all work out---I'd be stressing to the max! Awesome you got a little souvenir from the show (the pick!).
