Sum 41 Cancel All Kerrang! Tour Shows

Post by Mitchell »

Sum 41 have cancelled all their shows on the Kerrang! Tour, they will be replaced by The Blackout.
Kerrang! wrote:Kerrang! regret to announce that Sum 41 have been forced to pull out of the upcoming Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink. The rest of the line-up remains unaffected.

Frontman Deryck Whibley has been suffering from a back injury and will not be well enough to perform on the 11-date UK and Ireland tour, which is set to kick off on February 4 at Dublin Academy.

"I feel really terrible about letting down the fans," says Deryck. "I injured my back and the doctors are saying that I could be in a wheelchair. So, as much as I wanted to be able to do it, I've got to look at reality, and for the first time I've got to listen to somebody else and not just myself. We're all really upset about this; we've had such a great relationship with our UK fans. We were really looking forward to this tour."

"Kerrang! are really gutted to lose Sum 41 from what will be an unforgettable tour," says Kerrang! Editor James McMahon. "Let's be honest, the news totally blows. However the tour must go on and we're chuffed to say we've found a more than worthy replacement. We're absolutely delighted to announce that The Blackout have offered to step up to the plate and will be taking to the stage with New Found Glory, letlive. and While She Sleeps in February."

"We're delighted to step in for Sum 41 at the last minute!" says The Blackout's co-vocalist Sean Smith. "We've played the tour once before [in 2010] and we know what a total laugh it is. But hopefully Sum 41 fans won't try and murder us! This should be a really, really great tour and we're all really excited to watch the other bands every night."

Deryck Whibley talks more about his injury and withdrawal from the tour in next week's Kerrang! [on sale January 25], while The Blackout also speak about what they've got planned for their slot.

The Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink dates are as follows:

February

04 Dublin Academy
05 Dublin Academy
07 Southampton Guildhall
08 Norwich UEA
10 Bristol O2 Academy
11 Cardiff University Great Hall
12 Newcastle O2 Academy
13 Glasgow O2 ABC
15 Manchester Academy
16 Birmingham O2 Academy
17 London Roundhouse

fuckin hell, you try replacing a band for another decent band at 2 weeks notice. I doubt Kerrang had many options.

I agree that The Blackout are shit though.

I actually enjoy the Blackout but I've seen them to many times as a support band that I am just fed up of seeing them live. terrible news but if it keeps Deyrck out of a wheelchair then I welcome the news. Hope he gets better soon.

I'm in Canada, I'm not affected by this. Because no one ever comes here. Ever.

I'm moving.

Anyone buying kerrang on 25th and scanning Deryck part? <3 Things seem to be really bad though, maybe even end of their touring? Can't take risks with back.

This is extremely depressing news, thank god I haven't bought a ticket yet or arranged my travel at all. I feel sorry for the band but mostly Deryck of course, this is really really shit. Hopefully they'll reschedule some UK dates so I get to see them again before I leave for Uni in New Zealand next February. But if those Asian dates get cancelled, well there's gonna be a hell of a backlog. :sosad:

I am still jealous as hell of you UK'ers that are able to see this tour. New Found Glory and letlive. made this tour worth going to alone. Obviously, Sum 41 would have been nice to see, but those two bands are worth every penny.
And I know I said I needed space,

but I know I can't be comfortable in my own skin.

So when I say I'm scared to be alone, you know I mean it,

I'm just not ready to leave my room.

I'm just hoping that Deryck finally takes the necessary steps to regain his health.

Get better for the future.
