Re: Your favorite Sum 41 style
So like I said, I don't give a shit about the specific genres of every album.
I say Sum 41 is a rock band, or if more specifics are needed, I'd say Alternative Punk Rock. But to make sub-genres for each album, give me a break.
I'm not sure what you mean by "style".
The style of the clothes they are wearing, I prefered their UH era looks. SBM comes closely second, since those two eras had the "rock" look I like.
The style of their live shows, SBM era is definitely the best. All the interaction with the crowd, with no pre-rehearsed stage banter, and of course the variety of the songs played.
The style of their interaction with fans, I'd say pre-SBM era was the best. Deryck used to write a blog on MySpace like every month, and when the album production began, they started to do daily studio updates. And of course the tour updates after they hit the road. Only the frequent Q&A answers were better during the Chuck and UH eras.
The style of their public appearance, definitely UH. Most of the time it was the full band doing the interviews, compared to only Steve and/or Cone doing them nowadays. Back then Deryck actually gave a shit, so it was enjoyable to listen to the interviews with long and informative answers instead of "I don't care what everyone says".
And finally, the style of their albums. It depends on mood. I was in love with UH, and I was sad when they told that they would go back to the dark again. But when SBM came out, I fell in love with that one, and UH feels too soft now. So it's hard to say which "style" is the best. But I love their newer material because of the depth of the songs. Songs in UH and SBM have so much depth. Multiple vocal and instrument layers make the listening experience so much more enjoyable.
Also, I could rate their style of their promotional/productional appearance, but it's mainly Island Records who was in charge for that. I'd say Chuck or UH eras were the best. Lots of bonus tracks as B-sides, many different versions of the albums (e.g. bonus DVDs and CDs), contests run by the band (now the contests are made by the fansites), and their website in Chuck era was full of useful information, and was updated frequently.
So, there you have my preferences for their "styles".

To me they were on top of their game around 2002-2003 when they were awesome live and Dave hadn't gotten bored yet.
