I done a Pieces cover in front of about 200 last year, and if i had the choice, I'd played guitar and let you do the vocal/piano thing. NIICCEE!

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
I actually agree, I've been working on the vocals for about 3 days and still can't quite get one that fits the song and fits my vocals. He goes to low on that song and I've having to sing a different octavePTswim41 wrote:its pretty good. i think you over sang it a little bit

Like it a lot! And melody changes are good, but if you wanna sing it like the song then just change the key! :)

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
Deryck's piano style doesn't work without a pedal. It sounds like a cheap wedding-entertainer keyboard loop and the chords didn't sound quite right as well (some major/minor confusion and some other things). And yeah, you definitely need do play it in a different key for this song to work with your voice. I can imagine it would sound really great with your voice. I would record a little tutorial for you, but unfortunately I don't have access to a working piano at the moment...

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
Hmm I can't really change a key for you 'cause I don't have that much experience of girl singers but give this a try: Gm - D# - Bb - F

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
I finally got around to listening to this! I enjoyed it and I liked how you changed up the melody too. I look forward to hearing the worked out version! Lately, I can't stop listening to Pieces. Before, I never thought much of it, but I guess whatever's going on in my life has led me to hold this song close to home. It's kind of refreshing to hear this song with a different vocal melody and a female voice instead of a male voice, haha.

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
It definitely is a good one. But for me on a very personal level, nothing gets closer than Slipping Away. At least nothing that I didn't write myself.
By the way, I completed my first real song yesterday. I did the 15 minutes exercise that Deryck always talks about and I ended up with a neat little song at the first try. I was thinking too complicated, I just had to start simple.
I guess I will keep doing that like every second or third day now and see how much I get out that way.

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
^^yeah it seems like the more complicated I try to make the song or the more I think about it, the worse it comes out. And defiantly walk away if you get stuck

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
Exactly... it sucks, when you spent so much time on coming up with complicated stuff that sounds so good by itself only to end up with something totally unfinished that doesn't seem to go anywhere, ever.
Looks like I finally got past that and it feels pretty good.

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
I feel the same way. When I'm coming up with parts for songs and begin trying really hard to do something complicated or unique, it always comes out corny and boring. I have many unfinished ideas and lots of projects that only contain two riffs sometimes.
Though it's always a great feeling when you come up with something out of the blue and it's like, "Holy shit, did I just write that?" I've had that moment at least once in all my songs, haha.

Re: Pieces Piano Cover
yep, I wrote that Mr.RocknRoll in like an hour completely done and recorded it. I have never written a song that fast. Its pretty cool when stuff just comes out and an hour later you're like..whoa I have a songJeremy Kill wrote:Though it's always a great feeling when you come up with something out of the blue and it's like, "Holy shit, did I just write that?"
