Oh come on, give them a break. Now that they're back being wasted and stupid (i.e. fun - at least that's what I get out of this), all of a sudden it's too much?
I mean, I'd also appreciate sober footage or more info, but what kind info on the new album do we really need anymore that they can actually give us? Deryck is just going to do his thing anyway and people will keep asking him if it's heavier or more pop-punk, when it's going to be released and other meaningless shit they have already or can't possibly answer.
I just love the fact, that we get all this random stuff. I'm not even complaining about the smoking, although I think it's the most stupid, pathetic, waste of time, money and breath thing you can do in your life.

There is even some mixing info in the video, if you listen closely.

Yeah, I don't see the drinking as that big of a deal. I'm pretty sure they get drunk as often as did when they toured Does This Look Infected? sans cocaine, weed and LSD.

I'm actually quite disappointed, they are nowhere near as drunk as I wish them to be, they need to be far more intoxicated before shooting a video.

Also, I think Deryck should just buy a lighter and who really cares if they smoke, big deal, how does that affect you in anyway. It's reminds me of vegan trying to preach about not eating animal produce. You can hate it all you want just don't come up to my face about. Let them be, it's like because they are a band all the fans expect them to be robots and have no fun, be thankful they even post videos, I know some bands that don't even interact with their fans when they're recording an album.

But smoking is baaaad!!! I heard it on the news! You can die!

Just let them do whatever they want, unless they're doing heroin i don't see any reason to care.

Nothing's bad. He just didn't like the fact that he could only hear the bass in the main speakers, which are huge and nowhere near anything you have at home. Mixing/Mastering studios offer a variety of speakers to simulate and demonstrate different situations, where the client's music could be played, so they can get a better impression if they did a good job.

^^yeah I noticed that with UH, you can really hear the bass with certain high quality speakers, but not with like just regular ones. I hope its mixed into the song better this time around

It's not necessarily a bad thing, usually it works great this way. You don't really need to notice the bass all the time, because the high frequencies usually disappear in the guitars anyway and you only want to add the low frequencies.
Take them away and you would instantly feel the bass is gone, but you can't really tell it's there unless you know it.

This is why bass players and big egos don't really go together. Depending on the complexity of the music, you have to be willing to comply.

I personally like music with a lot of bass, I have my subwoofer turned to full on the bass settings.

^^from Rock-Punk-Metal Belgium
Stevo: ‘Recording… We had a producer, you know. We started with the drums, and you know.. It didn’t work out, so we moved on. Now we’ve finished the record without him and it’s all good, everything is great! And (pauzes) It’s been a good process. I think this is our best record, so I’m really excited.’

Sounds like they didn't even record the drums with him. I think he was around only for the pre-pro, then they kicked him out. :silly:

It's probably for the same reason why they didn't have a producer on UH. Sounds like they only want to have someone they can go to and ask for a second opinion in case they run into trouble. But a producer usually wants to put his own stamp on the songs aswell to be able to take credit for actually producing and not just being a creative assistant or something. I can understand both sides and since Deryck seems to be so used to producing these days, this was kind of predictable.

Gil was there at the recording of the drums.. the 2nd update was the last day of drums..

@Simon

in this case it has probably nothing to do with Gil trying to put his stamp on songs because they usually don't change the songs after pre-production.. and I think that Sum 41 can do it on their own
