Best Mac?

Post by Dylan »

So our comp is screwed and its failed on us three times since June. The following is speculation, but i think we might get a mac. Im asking you mac experts, whats the best mac for a family of four who has lots of music, pictures, downloads and other mulimedia content? I say family of 4, but im usually the one who uses it the most, but the otheres use it also. So, how bout it?

An iMac, all the way.

Depends just on how much you wanna spend: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/s ... amily/imac

But I would wait a bit, they're gonna release new ones soon.

Yeah, definitely go with an iMac if it's for your family.

Or built a Mac OS X compatible PC and buy the EFi-X Device to boot from a regular OS X install disc.
You will get more performance and more HDD space while you pay less, if you dont mind a computer case below the desk. But you will need to have the basic knowledge of how to assemble a computer from its parts and for extra performance knowledge of overclocking. I did it all by my self and got my PC Mac for ~800€: 3,6GHz Intel Q6600 Quadcore CPU, 8GB RAM, 1500GB HDD, 8800GT VGA card. Its fast as hell and works perfectly.

But if you dont know anything about it and dont have the time to acquire the information you need to have first, then just go for an iMac.

That's a sweet setup you have there, the only complaint I have is "VGA" card, you should upgrade to DVI or HDMI when you get the chance. I know how weird Macs are when it comes to manual upgrades.

I meant VGA card like graphics card. The 8800GT of course has DVI.

Aww didn't get that, but for future reference, the card is not VGA, the port is VGA. I can't speak for Macs but most grapic card's come as PCI-Express Nowadays, older motherboards would use, normal PCI or AGP
