It's a "Fender Special Run" '72 Telecaster Deluxe. So they're limited edition and pretty rare. I don't know how long they've been around for though. But it must've been sometime after 2004. Anyways, moral of the story is that that guitar kicks ass!

im so going to try to do one of these this summer. im thinking about getting that white one with :

-white pearloid pickguard
-one tone and volume knob
-only one sh4 pickup, no unwired neck pickup because it would just get in my way
-leave input jack where it is

oh and when making your custom pickguard on that website what choice to did choose for the bridge pickup hole? i dont know which would work for the sh4

i'm not trying to make it like derycks completely. the white guitar with white pearloid shall be my own thing. i dont like plain white pickguards.

"H1" if you're referring to the Terrapin Guitars website
"Gibson Humbucker" if you are referring to Warmoth guitars website

But Terrapin Guitars is the way to go since their pickguards are supposed to fit authentic guitars and not their own.

OHHHHH, i thought you said you wanted to make a replica of the guitar in those newer (pre- UH, but newer) pics of sum playing with IGGY POP. its kinda yellowish with a white pickguard. i didnt realize you meant like mine but with just a different pickguard

No, in those pictures deryck is using his protoype squier, before they had made the actual white body, they used the one off this guitar for his protoype:

hey. i have a suggestion for the dudes who modded their guitars. i think ur telecasters have 250k ohm pots in them. to give ur guitar a richer, brighter, "twangier" sound, replace them with 1meg ohm pots.
you cant have a tele without the "twang"! =D

Thanks for that. I was thinking of changing the pot from a 250k to maybe 500k. But maybe 1meg sounds better.

When I got my guitar from the shop, I forgot to pick up the old parts. So, finally, after about 7 months, I got those parts back from the shop when I went there to get a new 500k pot installed. Here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure of the scrap pieces and different colors of tape I put on the guitar to see what they'd look like.

Wow. I like how you used different X's. Does anybody know the specs from Deryck's pewter tele?

My Guitar:

Original Post:
Basically I want to create my own authentic Deryck Whibley Signature Telecaster (aka the Telecaster he plays live... the deluxe). But I need to figure some things out first. Here are my questions:

1) What is the neck pickup? What is the bridge pickup?
2) The single knob he has on his guitar... is that just the volume knob?

I'm planning to get the '72 Fender Telecaster Deluxe and build with that. Questions concerning this are:

3) With the '72 Deluxe, can I just take out the pickup switch if I don't want it?
4) Can I take out the other 3 knobs if I don't want them as well?
5) How to I install an input/output jack on the pickguard like Deryck's?

If any questions were to be answered, the first and third would be high priority. Thanks in advance. I know this'll probably cost me a helluva lot of money, but I'm saving up!
For anyone else who wants to make this replica, these are the things you will need:

- Fender '72 Telecaster Deluxe; Black
- Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Humbucker Pickup (Plated or non-plated)
- Input Jack
- Custom Pickguard from Warmoth or Terrapin
- Schaller Strap Locks; Chrome Color (Optional)
- Get'm Get'm Sergeant Guitar Strap; White (Optional)
I love this guitar !! moi aussi je l'ais
