Building a Fender Telecaster!

Post by Nic »

I have finally decided to build my dream guitar, a Fender Telecaster. I have already ordered everything (except the neck and strap-locks). I will update this thread with my progress. When I am completely done, the tele will cost me about USD $1,100. A lot, but it will be fucking worth it! This topic will give Jeremy a boner.

The Body - $175

The Pickups - $237

Neck Pickup: Dimarzio Area T - $67

Bridge Pickup: Joe Barden T-Bridge - $170

The Hardware - $316

I'm still waiting on all my other parts in the mail. All the hardware I ordered is handmade by Bill Callaham at Callaham guitars. The parts he makes have an extremely good reputation in the "tele community". They are much better quality than all the stock parts on Fender Telecasters. I will post pictures and descriptions once I get them (tomorrow).

The Neck - $--
Will be the last thing I buy. I plan on purchasing an all maple official Fender neck. It will probably be the most expensive part for the project.

The Pickguard - $36

To see how the pickguard will look on the guitar, use the photo below as a reference. That guitar is a Strat, not a tele but you still get the picture.

It's going to be SEXY!

Holy poop Nic, I can't wait to see it when it's done! I love looking at custom guitars, especially Telecasters for some reason. I guess because you can personalize them as much as you want.

It's pretty pointless building a beautiful guitar when you suck at playing it.

So Nic, is that the actual pickguard you are going to use, or is it just to show us the design?

Just the design. It wont have the middle pickup slot.

Nope. The finish on the body is way more vibrant. It's not going to have the middle pickup. It has a different bridge and I will be using a different neck with different tuners. :2cool4u:

Body = finished. I was disappointed when I put the pickguard on. It doesn't match as well as I was anticipating. Super bummed. I think I am going to look around a little more for a different one. The next thing on the "to do list" - come up with roughly $400 for a neck. Thinking about going with a flame maple w/ vintage gloss like on the necks below.

Maybe it's the lighting and angle of the picture, but I don't think the pickguard looks too bad. Those flame maple necks look pretty nice. I suppose for $400 they should look pretty damn good.

i LOVE the neck on that one on the right. Normal "strat" headstock FTW!

One of my favorite features of the 72' deluxe. Keep us updated! :D

I have all the parts except the neck. The neck should be complete in a few weeks and then it will be shipped to me!
