(I use social media rarely so I post here)

I'm just a 'late-fan', although I had known some of their song before, but I think got into them about 2006.
My first song was Hell Song (in a Naruto amv),  that guitar riff just rocked my world, blew me away instantly and it still hooks me everytime. Since then I slowly learnt more and more about the band, listened to every song, demo and album they have and I got to love them more and more. They just changed my music taste at core and by that I became more opened to other music styles and got to know more favourite bands which I wouldn't know about if there's not the Sums.
In 2011 they came here Hungary for the first time and totally owned the whole festival, then came back one year later. This year they're coming back again and although I'm sad they're not headliners (guess it means about 30-45 minutes performance which is f*cking short :( ) I can't wait to see them again! If they come here, I can never miss them!
This year through pledgemusic I got a handwritten The Hell Song lyric sheet by Deryck. It's just a simple paper, but if I look at it I see so much more: everything that Sum 41 and everything that means to me.
Maybe not from the beginning, not 20 years, but every memory they've given me will escort to the rest of my life.
Happy anniversary Sum 41!

Well, I know what I'm going to be doing leading up to the hours of the 20th year! Definitely will gather some things for this. Quick question: shouldn't we be celebrating this on July 27 (Deryck shared his first warped tour ticket with that date on it last year sometime).

Good point, and this was being considered. However,

A) Deryck got the idea to start the band on that date, while the band started in "the next days".
B) We've celebrated July 31st for years now, feels weird to change it.
C) Cone's tweet last year, after Deryck had already posted the picture of the ticket.

So new song on the 31st?

Post by Shane41 »

In the announcement that they made about the celebration it reminded us about "something we might have forgot or didn't even know." We know they said fmod is just something for the fans and they wanted to release a real single it would be the right time and we heard a fan say when he was on the bus with them that goddamn I'm dead again might be the single so does anyone else think we might get another song?

While TheresNoSolution.com is very close to the band and we work together, TNS is still a fansite run by fans. That being said, our announcement of the anniversary celebration has nothing to do with the plans Sum 41 might have. The band hasn't said anything about the upcoming anniversary, the quote you're referring to is from our post over a week ago. While we would love to surprise you with a new song, that is out of our control, so don't get your hopes up.

Thanks for joining the forums! Welcome To Hell!

The story about the discovery of my love to Sum 41 started not too long ago (November 2014 approx.) when I began to search for new songs because I was tired of listening to the same songs from different bands over and over. By the time, I only had 3 songs (Fat Lip, Motivation and What We're All About) which had been introduced to me by my brother long time ago, but I wasn't too much into music by then (I was just interested in playing video games and focused on school xd, while listening to songs from the radio or songs introduced to me by my brothers or friends). Each new song I tried from Sum 41 was so intense and energetic as the previous that I just couldn't believe it! What an awesome band!! I then realized how much I had missed for so many years... After this discovery, my new favourite song was Back Where I Belong (if I ever had a favourite one, probably some Linkin Park or MCR song) but sooner or later every other song, including Fat Lip, started to grow more and more on me, and then most of them felt to be on the same level of awesomeness! (At the time I had around 40-50 songs). This is when I started to feel like a real fan of something for the first time in my life! (about 1 year ago).

A couple months later, I was going to the doctor to check my back (unfortunately he discovered I had a herniated disc, which later I found out Deryck have this problem too..) and saw a billboard and read "SUM 41" (WTF? IS IT POSSIBLE?) I tried to read what it was about but it was too far away. But... Yes. They were coming to Perú (for the first time ever) and I COULDN'T FUCKING BELIEVE IT. They couldn't have come in a better moment because I had just discovered how much I love their music. This definitely had to be my first concert.

After this, I started to investigate about the persons behind this success. I learned about Deryck's life and what he had gone through, Dave's departure and that he was doing his official comeback in this show! Etc. A couple weeks before the show I realized I had to meet this guys, but I had no clue how to do it (I've never been a fan of being an actual fan lol, and I had never looked for an autograph or photo from an artist before). The night before the show I finally found out the hotel where they were gonna stay, so I went there in the morning and hope to see them. There were some other fans as well and we were decided to wait until 5 pm at most so we were able to arrive to the concert on time. We had luck and the sums became to show up! The first one was Dave. He was going to do some shopping and he was SO kind (This was my first interaction with a rock star, so I was expecting something different xp). Then Frank, he was also gentle but he was a bit disappointed because we had no pictures from Sum 41 with him :/ (december 12th, 2015). Then Tom. He was very kind as well and he even said some words in Spanish for Peruvian fans (we told him what to say, hehe). He was going for coffee. After him, DERYCK (and his annoying bodyguard, Yoshi I think lol). We didn't notice when or how he left the hotel (he probably left through the back door), but when he was coming back (he was going to enter the hotel through the back door again >_<), one of our guys luckily noticed him (he was wearing a hat, glasses (just like my profile picture), so it was hard to notice him) and we ran after him shouting his name, haha! He never said a word (probably because he knows we speak spanish) but he let us take a picture with him, sign our photos, etc. And the last was Cone. Apparently he got drunk the night before because Tom told us something like that when we asked him about Cone, and that he was just waking up (1:30 pm maybe xd). Cone showed up at 3 pm approx. He was really kind too :). We waited from 8 am to 3 pm, but it was totally worth it! Then we took a taxi to the concert. It was so amazing but I wish I had been closer to them to enjoy it in a better way.

Everything happened so fast. After that, I needed to have their albums. I've never bought one before but I wanted to listen to their music with the original sound, without any kind of modification that can cause the mp3, plus I wanted to feel more close to them and contribute for their awesome work. I went to the record stores but not a single CD from Sum 41... so I decided to order SBM, Chuck, UH and DTLI? from Amazon on February (yes, I still need AKNF and HHOP :d). Then I pre-ordered 13 voices on March because I was sure it's gonna be as great as all of their records, which I confirmed after the release of FMOD (*-*). Now here I am, Still Waiting for 7th October to come fast and celebrating this special day!

Happy 20th anniversary to Sum 41 and to all the Skumfuks! I wish I had discovered this band before, but things happen for No Reason (?) Haha! Thank God Deryck could scape from death and this hard situation made him stronger. Now Sum 41 is rocking better than ever, with Dave's return, this is a new beggining which I'm so stoked to be part of!

P.S. Sorry for my grammar. I usually check it with translators but this text is too long it would take me a while! I try my best, hope you can understand!
P.S.2 I don't use facebook, instagram, etc. I just use Twitter! So I'm just posting it here.

That's awesome! Glad you were able to meet them! Thanks for sharing!

But I must say that Yoshi is a super-cool guy and a really nice person. Not sure why you would think he's annoying, they were probably in a hurry, or just a bad day. But he really is a great guy.
