Post by Mitchell »

Deryck told Absolutepunk that they're going to take a break and will start working on a new record after this tour!

Awesome! I just hope it doesn't take to long to get released..
I was always under the impression that 'Chuck' was the fan-favorite album.

What? :glad:

AKNF and DTLI have always been the fan favorites, while UH has been the opposite.
True, Chuck has been appreciated by the superfans, but it never got the same hype as the other two.

I would say a release in 2015 is possible.

No but around summer 2014 seems legit.
And your least favourites?

“All Messed Up” and “Thanks For Nothing” would be my two least favourites.
HOW THE FUCK?!

Thanks For Nothing is one, if not the best Sum 41 song of all time. The live version of it on the DVD is so fucking good.
Sometimes I can't help think that I have you right behind me all this time
If only you could have a chance to see
All the happiness you gave to me

It'll be a while. Deryck told me at least 3-4 years.

I think we can be glad they think about new material at least and not just saying "we'll see". :)

Well, I'm not too surprised by this as we've heard about this being a possibility for awhile now. I'm excited that we'll get some new material. The writing process for this album is going to differ so much from Screaming Bloody Murder's. I hope within these 3-4 years of putting the next album together we get some shows in between somewhere.

From taking a break to writing then releasing an album, I think it will be released in 2016. Hopefully not later.

I just hope it won't turn out like TFYTG and BYDWK.

I kinda do hope the new album is like TFYTG and BYDWK. Those songs are pretty good, they just don't fit well into SBM

If you want songs like them, then listen Green Day. Uno and Dos (and I guess Tre will be the same) have the same old-pop-rock'n'roll feeling. I like BYDWK, but for a whole album, it's really, really boring for me (as GD proved it).

I really don't know what direction they will take, I just hope some more catchy guitar riffs like their old songs have.

1) How do you know that?
2) What makes you think that way?

The songs for SBM were written individually in 3 years, with some parts taken from earlier stuff. Why wouldn't it be the case this time aswell? I don't see Deryck forcing himself to write an album again.

For some reason, I feel like we may be getting something like Chuck, with a little something else this time around. Like, remember how SBM had the musical 'beauty' of UH, and the rawness and heaviness of Chuck, but also with really dark undertones? I feel like the next album will continue to draw from both Chuck and SBM, but without the dark undertones, and something else as well. I foresee a lead single being something like SBM/No Reason - y'know, something really heavy and hard-hitting, with an awesome guitar riff. I also foresee fewer ballads. But I also feel that we are going to see a lot more of the style already shown in TFYTG and BYDWK - I'm not saying for a whole album, but I feel those songs are a good indication of the future direction of the band, given that they are the latest two songs Deryck has written and recorded.

Also, I really do hope that Deryck isn't aiming to bring out an album in ~4 years' time. I personally would want to see a writing and recording process more akin to the early albums than to SBM - not as frantic and hellish as DTLI, but something like Chuck or UH, where the band were able to take their time, but also knew they had to work within a given timeframe.

Agreed. That style feels bland and emotionless, IMO.
I think the news bit under the banner might give some people heart attacks XD

to be honest ... we can talk about what we think the album is going to be like but in the end it will be something completely different and unexpexted as always , cause it's Sum 41 and that's just what they do :)

3-4 years... Well, I think now that they don't have a label we'll probably get some music before that, fingers crossed! I hoped for 2014 release but oh well, I guess we'll see how soon songs come! Then again there's Cone's and Tom's songs too, so it probably depends a lot on how long break they need...
