I've just bought this vinatage squier bass as it's the closest replica i can find to the white one that Cone uses (without having to spend £500 on a fender).
i have that.
its fucking amazing 8)

I ordered yesterday so I am yet to recieve but i've read many positive reviews and it's meant to be squiers best bass available, apparently it's quite light weight which is a good thing. The only problem i have before even buying it is that it's a rosewood fingerboard and i prefer maple finger boards but tbh it doesn't bother me to much.

Well, Mark Hoppus is obviously a pretty decent bass player as he can sing at the same time but they're hardly very hard bass lines. IMO though All the members of Sum 41 play there intruments more skillfully than a lot of other bands they get compared with like Blink and Green Day.

And btw i qot the Squier bass i posted on the previous page. It is basically a replica of the one that Cone uses and it's pretty amazing (especially since Squier are generally a cheaper brand).

Cone inspired me to start playing bass. I got a P-Bass that is almost exactly like cone's, but the white and black colors are switched on the body. I didn't realize it until an hour ago lol

It's hard to compare Mark Hoppus and Cone, since their bass playing is more about rhythm than being particularly innovative with basslines and such. Neither of them have struck me as being virtuosos at their instruments. Not that that's a bad thing, since they can definitely play their stuff. They aren't like Flea or someone, though, who make a point of being "out there" with their playing.

I have to say Cone strikes me as being more, I don't really know, "serious" I guess about his instrument, since Mark just sort of "strums" his bass while on stage, and Cone actually tries to hit his notes clean and precise.

Yeah its true, i mean, its like comparing Deryck as a guitarist to such guitarists as Slash or Jimi Hendrix or Ritchie Blackmoore and such, i mean, Deryck isn't doing anything innovative on special on the guitar, he's just playing it for rhythm or when he did like all the guitars in the studio for UH and still, he didn't do anything special, just plays what he has too.
Tom DeLonge for example would be an equal comparison to Deryck as a guitar player, since Tom isn't that special at all too as guitarist.
