Sum 41 Facebook: very excited. The band flew into town tonight to start rehearsals and recording. Our first time playing together in over 2 years! Having a hard time sleeping tonight. I have too much energy!

an amazing day of running through a set of old songs. after 2 years not playing together the band sounded tighter than ever. had a great time playing the old ones. tomorrow we work on the new ones!

I just kinda realized that as much time has passed as the time between UH and SBM.
And here I am getting excited that it feels like things are moving on rather quickly this time around .

I don't know, I kinda liked how in every update you could hear a few seconds of potential new song, there was a video where all the new music parts where edited together from whole SBM update stash, someone from TNS made it I think. There was also a lot of material that didn't make it to album.

I get what you mean, but it was a little irksome to look forward to one for days or weeks only for it not have any previews or anything.
Although this time with all the stuff Deryck's put on his instagram, if there are updates, I'd imagine we'll get more.
They just need a dedicated camera person.

Maybe Deryck is recording a video asking fans to crowd fund the album? They don't have a label, after all. It looks like he's addressing the viewer rather than doing an interview, per sé..

I have no idea what type of label to expect Sum 41 to go to at this point... they've never been away from a major, have they? I'm surprised they were on Island for their last release, as it doesn't seem like there was much demand for more music from the band at that point. I hope Sum 41 finds a label that cares about the music, whether it's Island or elsewhere. I know bands like Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Used, and I believe Yellowcard have all gone over to Hopeless, which seems to be a label that legacy acts formerly associated with major labels excel on...

Also, who cares how "good" a riff is. It's a riff. The fact that it is happening is a sign of life from the band, and that's the number one most important thing about it. Who cares if it's a "weak" riff - you're complaining about a "weak riff" from a band that has plummeted over the past 5 years and is lucky to even still exist at this point. For some people, this "weak riff" is the coolest thing ever right now.
