Anyone Having Problems With Read Topics/Forums?

Post by Jeremy Kill »

The fist and hammer emblem turns pink when there's new posts in that particular forum, but when I go in and look at all the active threads and exit, the hammer emblem is still pink.

Is anyone else having this problem? The only way to get rid of it is to hit "Mark All Topics Read" even though you already read them all.

Also, when I view the forum as a guest, none of the hammer emblems turn pink when a new post is made.

We do this so no one steals the lyrics we have on the site. Tomi took a lot of time perfecting them.

Which topics. (Please link them if possible).

SamueeL had a similar problem last night. It's something to do with our trash can mod. I think it needs updating/removing.

Also, incase this is the problem:

To cut down database queries I recently stopped storing read/unread topics in the database and moved them over to cookies. So make sure you have cookies enabled :D

It's all of them. I'll view all the active threads in "The Sums," for example, and when I go back to the forum index the hammer icon for The Sums is still pink (when it should be blue). But it happens in all the forums.

Anyway, I'll make sure my cookies are enabled.

Was this change supposed to be a permanent thing?

Ideally i would like it to be, but i only put it in place because of the volume of traffic we were generating by this new song. But for a database, ours is moderately large for a phpbb forum and i would like to cut that down, which i have been doing, albeit slowly (You may have noticed the forum loads much faster than it did a few months ago).

Have you tried marking all topics as read in a forum?

Yeah I notice the difference. Also, yes, when I mark all topics read, it works. It's just a minor inconvenience, that's all. No one but me or Charley has really said anything about it, so it probably isn't that big of a deal for everyone else, haha.

I've been having the same problem, kinda annoying! if it;s something that is helping the forum behind the scenes and making your job easier then I'll be able to get used it, as Jeremy said it all goes fine once you mark all forums read.

Yeah, I'm willing to make small sacrifices for the sake of Jake and the forum. Obviously I'm not trying to suck up because I'm already a Mod, haha.

The only problem i can see is that it will reset if you clear your cookies or use a different PC. unless you use google Chrome and have it synced to a google account.

Yeah, you're not alone Jer...I first noticed it when the EU tour category was pink, I knew I had read all the entries. I can get use to it, so its not that big of a deal if it helps the board

I think everyone has noticed this, but most people just haven't said anything for whatever reason. I noticed this a day or two ago, but really didn't care enough to say anything. Plus, I thought maybe it was just my computer being weird.

Yeah, I'd like it to be the way it used to be.
No, I don't care if it stays this way.

It's not as vital as some other things, most likely. If it helps the site in whatever way, it's fine to me.
And I know I said I needed space,

but I know I can't be comfortable in my own skin.

So when I say I'm scared to be alone, you know I mean it,

I'm just not ready to leave my room.
