Pointless

My life just seems really pointless right now. I devote most of my time to learning bass and I don't think it's getting me anywhere. I want to be in a band, but I only have one friend who plays guitar and no drummer. So I learn these songs on my bass thinking "This would be fun to play live" but then I remember I probably never will.

My friend plays guitar and sometimes we play together but it frustrates me. I've learned about 13 songs on my bass and I work fucking hard on learning them. My friend looks at songs and says "too hard" or something and starts to try to learn a really easy song. Like some blink song. I've spent all my money on instruments trying to get really good at them, but where is this getting me? Sure I want to be a music teacher, but what is learning Sum 41 going to do towards that?

Maybe this will all pay off later. I'm playing trumpet, french horn, and bass in band next year. I'm also taking a music theory class in school. I take private lessons for bass. Being a music teacher would be fun, but on top of that I would also like to get together with a few friends and play some music. But there are no drummers out there. I don't want to get a random person.

But the thing that really annoys me is how everyone thinks I'm sooo talented and that I'm going to be a rock star one day. That pisses me off. They know that I'll never reach my dream because I have no one to be in a band with! There's little dedication coming from my friends. If someone asked my friends who their best friend was and they had to truthfully answer- I don't think any of them would pick me. They all seem to have better friends.

Sorry for all this but I just needed to vent.

I feel the same way. I REALLY REALLY want to play in a band yet, I have no one to be in a band with. It's very frustrating.

yea i know how you feel. i spend all my money on stuff related to music, work my hands off practicing, dedicate as much time as possible on my songwriting and it's gotten me nowhere farther than my room. but that's just cuz im 14. drummers are hard to find (im looking for one too) but theres gotta be at least one of them in your age range (a year or 2 of difference wont hurt), just keep looking.

you're a really good bassist (judging from your covers). just keep practicing and one day you'll be as good as Geddy Lee or Cone

though having a band is kinda funny two friends of mine have a band with no oficial singer and well sometimes I sing though I don't perfom live cuz my voice sucks i just do it for fun .... I don't want to be a rocksatr or something like that

I'm playin bass,too.I'm in a band and they found me in highschool.They are a year bigger than me.And they are playing metal.And because of that im not happy with them.Just keep practise you'll be in a band one day don't worry and don't be shy.Im most shy person with them i think.They always say me talk more . :D

Thanks. I would look for ads but who wants a 14 year old girl in their band? All the drummers I know either don't have drum sets and won't buy one or are big jerks. My friend said her friend has a drum set but of course she won't ask him. And I don't see him because I go to a different school, so i can't ask. It just frustrates me that I feel like the only one trying.

im in the same situation.
it seems pretty hopeless now. most people who play instruments are already in shitty metal bands in my school.
ill just have to wait til uni, i should have more luck then
i have no real advice, just to keep your eye open for opportunities. try to talk to people who like music and maybe they would wanna start a band.
