Even when they were doing more pop-punk oriented stuff, their tones always had kind of a metal edge to them before UH. AKNF had a very crunchy dark sound to it, even though it's commonly regarded as being one of Sum 41's poppier albums. Now with UH, though, it seems Deryck kind of abandoned that dar...

I have noticed that in all the studio footage and pictures I've seen from the DTLI and Chuck eras that Deryck is playing guitar a lot, especially compared to the amount Dave is seen playing. For all I know that could be just coincidental though, as Chuck has some pretty challenging parts to it, and ...

Whatever they were doing with their guitars and amps on DTLI was amazing, because they've never reproduced that sort of juicy crunchy sound they had on that album for anything else they've done.

Sum's Guitar Tones

Sum 41's choice in guitar tones is something I think is a bit overlooked. I personally believe that tone is what gives each album a huge portion of its overall feel and attitude. It's probably most of the reason why people compare Underclass Hero to blink, as Deryck's tones on UH were MUCH closer to...

I've always believed that it's not about any one particular element of the music, but about the whole thing that matters. Just because a rhythm guitar part or a melody or something sounds similar to that of another song doesn't mean it was "ripped off", because if you take every part of t...

Performance wise, Sum 41 is pretty good now, I'd say. Their stage presence might not have the same diversity and randomness it used to, but they perform pretty well. I personally think that apart from their early early days, Tom was never really that great live on either guitar or vocals. Especially...

Deryck doesn't hate Chuck at all. In fact he's stated that some of his favorite songs he's ever written are on it. Deryck said it was a "fucking mess" because their relationship as a band was terrible when they made the album, and there was no clear idea on what they wanted the end product...

But...what difference does it make how many people look at her site as to where she gets to be on there? She's got her own fans - Cone should be being promoted the most on their page (not that the 1, 2 positions get any different viewing promo on there, but it's the principal of the matter. She sho...

The most likely answer is just that, honestly, the amount of people clicking on Avri's icon will probably be gazillions more than that of the Operation M.D. or Steve's girlfriend.

It's sort of a popularity contest, it seems.

The problem with Tom as a backing vocalist is that he has very little self-control. He always throws his vocals out there full-force, whereas backing vocalists need to soften it up a bit for it to sound good. Plus, it seems his mic is always turned up too loud, which I guess isn't really his fault. ...

I can definitely hear his guitar on the With Me Performance, it's just kinda silent, but I actually don't know if making it louder would be a good idea or not, since it is just sorta supposed to be backing rhythm, for that one song at least. For other songs though, yeah, his guitar could get a bit l...

Is it just me, or is Deryck's voice getting deeper?

I noticed this before in some YouTube bootlegs from just before he got his injury, and I'm noticing it again here.

At Musique Plus they played a short bit of 88 after Motivation, but that's not something new for this tour. They did that back in the Chuck era a few times as well, when they weren't otherwise playing the whole song. As far as which songs are probably not coming back anytime soon because of Dave lea...

They never played Noots and Subject to Change either. They also never played live WWVII Parts 1 &2, nor Rock You and Reign in Pain. And i'm pretty sure they never played Another Time Around too. Oh and they never played Slipping Away too. Well yeah, I said non B-side. They almost never play B-s...

If you think about it, UH aside, they've played almost every non B-side at one point or another. HHOP - The only song from this album I have yet to see or hear them do a live performance of is Ride the Chariot, and I'm betting they've played it at SOME point during their early days, at least, and it...

Very few UH songs on setlist.

Does anyone else dislike the fact that, especially compared to earlier tours, Sum 41 has put very few new songs on their setlist for their recent shows? When I saw them in Chicago on 9/28, they played Underclass Hero, Walking Disaster, March of the Dogs and King of Contradiction. From what I've gath...
