The Official "SBM sounds like..." Thread

So I figured we need a thread like that where we will compare songs from SBM to songs that they sound like. I already have comparisons. Not that in any way I say that SBM is not good or not original or that these parts in songs were intentionally stolen, but still it's always fun to compare such things to already existing songs.

I'll start with:

Reason to Belive drum intro sounds just the drum intro in this: (well, actually the whole intro part, also the singing)
Sick of Everyone chorus ==> Prayer of the Refugee chorus (at 0:31):

You may suggest such other stuff that you notice. Already saw someone comparing Happiness Machine and Holy Image of Lies to MCR, which I found quite similar to be honest.

Even though you have made your point, i still think threads like these always derail and end up as a pointless debate between who has got the most cocks up their arse and not.

agree, its human nature to compare things, we could say each song sounds like 15 different artist, its pointless.

Yeah well, what can i say? The politics, the media, and this thread. Same shit different subject.

People just don't give a fuck, unless it's their benefit.

fuck, I so hate comparing Sum 41 songs to other bands' songs. This is the last time I'm in this thread. It pisses me off.

Nothing really stuck out to me as blatantly obvious comparisons, but the intro drums for Reason to Believe is the Terminator theme song, no argument!

Haha, I knew some of you are not gonna like it, but I still think this is kinda fun hehe. Well, when taking this lightly and just for the fun it, just making fun then it's okay... when we not taking this seriously and really arguing about it, that is.

No lyrics or songs feel stolen, i feel this is their 2nd true "original" album(the 1st being DTLI). The only things that sound similar are just the occasional chord progression intro that many artists have used, not whole chorus's like The Jester or even whole songs like Moron or The Bitter End.

The songs Time For You To Go along with Baby You Don'y Wanna Know are in the style of Garage lo fi-ish tune. They don't take from any artist its just a commonly used style of music which is why people call them familiar (they remind me of songs like Hitchin' a Ride by Green Day) Yes, they don't fit in SBM but if you look at them seperatly they are pretty good songs.

We're the Same is a B-Side because it has an identical drum pattern to Jessica Kill

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3TACZW6aig They are similar, but i think its pure coincidence, because thats the only thing thats similar. it only sounds the same becasue they are whispering.

I think that he was being sarcastic , so he meant that in a short period of time people will get to comparing totally different songs to one another without any reasonable argument ...like the guy who said that Sum 41's Always is a total rip off of Blink 182's Always, even though the only similarity between them two is the title

or not

The 'happiness machine' solo sounds abit like a7x's style of guitar, no particular song, just the style.

I saw someone on youtube, complain in some dumb argument, that Blood In My Eyes was a rip off of an Iron Maiden song, but he wouldn't for some reason say which. BUT THEN AGAIN this is youtube, and everyone fights on youtube.

Well 'Baby you don't want to know' intro reminds me of 'Holiday' by Green Day and 'Back to where i belong' reminds me of Linkin Park. Other than that, the album is totally new and original

Most of the album has shades of MCR, Oasis and a few other bands imo. I feel like Sum 41 didn't steal their style or sound with this bu sort of came up with it on their own. UH seemed very... pushed to me. I don't know if that was the right word. Majority of the lyrics were bleh and the chord progressions were pretty much the same in every song. In this album I feel like they captured the dark feel that MCR has always had in their music, thus resembling MCRs sound. I think Avril had a lot of influence over Deryck at that time so honestly I feel like UH is an infusion of Avrils album at the time and the darkness Deryck was trying to capture. Creating this ice cream coated bleeding heart effect. I think he really grasped the darkness and his inner demons this time around. Jessica Kill would be the only song on this album I'd say SOUNDS like Sum 41. Everything else in the vein of Sum 41 but it's new, it's fresh. Love the album.

After my useless rant what I mean to say is, the album has sounds of MCR and Oasis all through it.
