When it's all over

Despite being my favorite band of all time i don't think Sum 41 would last forever. So I'm Just wondering...How much longer do you think they'll make music? What do you think would happen to the band members when this day comes? I would give them 2 years and 2-3 albums, Tom and Cone have their own side projects to go too, Deryck would most likely make a new band or go solo and i have NO idea what Steve would do.

Steve would direct music videos, he's done a lot when Sum 41 were taking a break. And don't jinx it!

They would probably break up after one of them dies or if one of them gets a kid..
they are just too attached to each other to break up under any other circumstance

I'd say Steve would direct videos and collaborate with all of the other members, whatever avenue they went down. Possibly playing all the drums on Deryck's solo album or something.

And agreed - let's not jinx it!

I don't think Deryck will ever make a solo album. Deryck and Steve have been best friends since high school. Everything is going well with Sum 41 right now and they don't have doubts on their career status. I'd say as long as they stay decently successful then they will last another 10 years or more.

Yeah anything could happen in the net 10 years but as of right now i expect them to be fully active again. I think if they loose another member (most likely cone) they wouldn't be able to handle it, that had a rough time getting over Dave. Also about the Deryck Whibly solo project... i think it would be a Whibley/Jocz solo album because, as you said, they've been best friends since high school.

I thought Sum41 was already Deryck's solo project

Deryck and Steve would stick together, Cone would probably have several music-related projects in Toronto and the area and Tom would go back to Gob. I'm sure sometime down the road Deryck would release a solo album, even if it's like demos or something. That would actually be kind of cool.

As of present though, I really hope the band lasts a long time. Screaming Bloody Murder just seems like it'll be their greatest work yet and I'd want to hear what albums they'd be writing to follow that up.

depends on how they end If they were to split up and go there seperate ways id say
Steve would maybe just be a touring drummer and direct music vids
Cone MIGHT start a new band with Todd?
Deryck I can see starting a new band or a solo project or even carry on producing full time
and Tom will obv just go back and be with GOB

Until they are satisfied with being together, creating a music together and touring together, they will last.

I have always thought why Cone is not a porn actor like his father but Cone has been being with one woman for more than 10 years or so ...this is what I call keeping the tradition ! but no seriously here you can see that his father wasn't convincing Cone to be anything but himself ! Many doctors, lawyers, businessmans or teachers will never understand that !

Hooray to Porn !

Well if they split up/die (god forbid) there wold really be not much of a reason to keep coming back to this site.

exactly, they went trough a lot of different situations and i don't believe they would broke up if one of them for example get bored with band.

but God(if you exist), let them last forever!

I'd rather not think about this situation.

I always often think of stuff like this. Well not exactly but like you don't think one day that the bands we are listening to now will be gone one day. You know? It's crazy. Like Josh from Paramore said when people stop coming to shows, that's when they'll stop, cause he was saying it won't last forever and what not. I think this is a lot of musicians take on this aswell. I think The Sums are a strong enough band to last for longer than they've been around. I mean they are on their 5th album (not including HHOP), and they've been around since the late 1990's. I don't think their going anywhere!

Also about the Deryck solo thing, It could be possible but I can see him more of a producer. He seems to like that. But writing will always be his talent.

This situation has crossed my mind many times. I think it would be very unusual when Sum41 splits up, and it would take some getting used to, knowing that the band I grew up with is no longer. However, since they've been pretty inactive in making music for 3 almost 4 years, it does in a way, seem like they aren't around any longer. I obviously can't tell you all when Sum 41 will call it quits, but I can honestly voice my opinion, which is that I think SBM, if it ever does come out, will be their last album. I think they will just tour for awhile after that until eventually breaking up the band. I think for their last ever concert, they should play at the place they played their first show, and have Dave play with them for their final show! That will be a night to remember!

Dude I really hope that SBM isn't their last album, but the more and more i think about it, it kinda seems to make sense.. And thats a badass idea for Dave to play their final show, I'd go regardless of location.
