10 greatest songs of the 90s

Post by sumfan4 »

I was watching VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90s, and while reminding me of many childhood memories, when I used to hear most of those songs all the time, it inspired me to make a thread. Write down your top 10 greatest songs of the 90s, and a reason if you have one.

10. Matchbox 20-Push - This song has a great tune, it's fun to listen to, and it reminds me of being a little kid hearing it while riding around in my mom's big conversion van back in my hometown.

9. Sugar Ray-Someday - This is just a fun tune to listen to and to blast in the car because of the good bass boost, and again with the nostalgia.

8. Third Eye Blind-How's it Going to Be - This is a sad song for me, it makes me think of my best friend and how he went to college and left everybody back home, and now I rarely see him.

7. Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit - Great song, always good to rock out to!

6. Local H-Bound For the Floor - This was basically a one hit wonder, but it's such a good song.

5. The Offspring-Come Out and Play - Awesome song which always reminds me of the crazy shit me and my friends do!

4. Counting Crows-Long December - I always liked this song when I was a kid, but never knew who it was by, or what it was called. Before I put it on my ipod, I haven't heard it in years.

3. Pearl Jam-Last Kiss - Like the previous song, I never knew info about it, but heard it all the time when it first came out. It's such a great song, and PJ did an excellent cover of it. The original was from like the 50s and it was so fast and upbeat, that it was over in like a minute and a half. I defenitely like PJ's version best.

2. Alice in Chains-I Stay Away - Beautiful song! It reminds me of me and my friends hanging out and enjoying high school life. I love this song, and it always gets me choked up when I hear it, it's just...amazing.

1. Stone Temple Pilots-Plush - I think a part of me would be dead if I never heard this song. It's my all-time favorite song of the 90s, and one of my all-time favorite songs in general. Plush just screams 90s. It has that 90s sound, and it's so thick. I absolutely love this song and all the memories that come with it!

Another notable mention would be the entire Dookie record IMO.

All the small things? Also, Jeremy by Pearl Jam deserves a mention.

How is that possible when Enema of the State came out in '99?

The album release isn't the same as a single release.

I used to be a big fan of those guys. Don't like their recent album tbh. They definately go on my 90s list.
I think their song "Fly" was a bigger hit of the 90s though! I do believe that one was on that VH1 special aswell.

To everyone mentioning Blink 182, i was just reading all your replies about Enema, and All The Small Things comes on TV! how weird.

I don't think I even started listening to music before 2000. At least I have no memories of what I might've listened to during the 90's. Probably some random songs occasionally on the radio, but nothing specific springs to my mind.

since its a list of singles being the "greatest songs of the 90s", we need to acknowledge the fact that All the Small Things was released as a single in january 2000. sure it was released on the album a few months earlier, but it didn't get significant radio/tv play until after it was released as a single.
