So many people get cancer nowadays. It's become like an usual thing to me. I don't get the feeling shows like these are in any way helpfull. Goodthing they try though..but I dunno it always looks like a big commercial to me.

My grandma died of cancer in June.
Getting cancer is almost a normal thing these days indeed. I'm glad people still fight for it in shows like this.

Cancer is probably my worst fear, I've seen it take a lot of people dear to me, some as young as 23, especially the past 3-4 years. I admire the people dedicated on stopping it, but it's weird how humans can do almost everything yet they're helpless when it comes to this disease.

I actually watched it last night. I heard about it on the radio a few weeks ago.
I meant to watch it for the first run but I forgot about it until someone reminded me so I watched it a couple hours afterwards. It was very informative and the telethon hasn't been aired since 2008. My favourite performance was Billie Joe Armstrong singing Wake Me Up When September Ends. Mainly because it holds a personal meaning for him because his Dad died of Cancer when he was just 9 years old. Almost all of my grandparents have passed away from this disease, some I didn't even get a chance to meet.

I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, cancer of the lymph nodes, a little over 2 years ago. I had a 9 pound tumor in my chest and surgery was out of the question so I went through the chemo and radiation therapy and am now still in remission :) And cancer isn't a normal/usual thing, there are reasons why the U.S. has such a high cancer rate opposed to alot of far east countries, alot of it comes down to diet. I wish the best of luck to all of you who have been affected in some way.

Thanks man. But my heart goes out to those who are worse off. Luckily my cancer was only in stage 2b, I know of people who had progressed to stage 4 which is when the cancer gets to the bone marrow. It is very tough to treat at this stage because it requires a bone marrow transplant. I think these tv specials really put into perspective how so many people can be affected, and it also gives the world a better understanding and more awareness. Like Lance Armstrong, his charities have raised so much for cures and new medicines to combat against cancer.
