Accessing the media section

There has been some talk about the 200 post limit for accessing the media, and the post-whoring among the new members because of it.

This just crossed my mind, but the answer could be donation.

Remove the 200 post limit.
Only the donators could access the media section.
Or it would be donators + members with 1000+ posts, so the old members won't suffer from this. :silly:

200 posts can be reached quick, but if the limit is like 1000, the new members could use the donating option if they really wanted that media. And that way it would help the admins to keep running the site.

So what do you guys think? Too harsh?

I like it.

But at the same time, i'd just take the 200 and call that a win.

Don't like it ;(
This is just a "sub" account since I didn't like my name on the other, but not even on that I have anything close to a 1000posts ^^

How about something like, "Member for six month with at least a number of posts"

Sounds like a good idea, but what constitutes as a donation? Would be allow members to join and donate $2 over another who maybe donates $10? There should be a base minimum of a donation so then it's fair and anything over that minimum is the donator's discretion.

Yes, that's what I thought. But the amount should be low enough, so the new members will use the donate function. I doubt anyone is going to pay much more than 10 bucks. But yeah, definitely a base minimum, so everyone is on the same page.

But guys, the donation would not be only for new members. It helps the site we all love, so why wouldn't we, the older members, give a few bucks for a good cause?
And if it's so hard to think yourself giving money, then grab the media before the limits change, if at all.

It's just a matter of something to give away before getting something back.

Kind of discriminates those that cannot donate though.

Is it a country thing? Yeah well then it's another case.
Or what do you mean by "cannot"?

I don't know, just something that crossed my mind.
We could always raise the post count limit to like 500, but that wouldn't stop the post-whoring for sure.

To everyone, feel free to post your own suggestions!

Not everyone has a credit card/debit card/paypal maybe because of their age or any other factors.

Well yeah, true that.
But asking parents? That's what I did when I was a minor-ager and wanted to donate to a site.

But anyways, just a suggestion. Feel free to improve it or come up with your own!

the donation link was pretty much a waste of space, like 4 people used it. >.< However, I added the button to my sig.

Besides, I'd quite like to scrap the 200 posts rule for a while. however, if bandwidth usage skyrockets again, we'll need an alternative defiantly.

Well that's the point. Some think, why donate if you can't get anything from it.
If the media would be accessible only after donating, then I think that button would be used again!

Basically the limit is there to eliminate the freeriders, who take everything but give us nothing.
We need a method of preventing the noobs to get all the media without contributing to the community itself.
So far the post count limit has been a good solution, but now I think a better one is needed.

But don't remove the post count limit without an alternative way to stop the freeriders.

I think 1000 posts is too much to ask of someone. I think the 200 post rule is fine as it is.
