yesterday i attempted to change my guitar strings myself for the first time and once they were on and in tune i noticed that they are a lot higher off the fretboard than the previous set of strings were.
they havent really been "broken in" yet so i dont know if i did something wrong or if they just need to be used a little :confusion:

they seem tighter than usual, but they are all in tune....
is there a way to loosen them without "untuning" them???

Hm. What guitar do you have?

Try adjusting the truss rod with an Allen wrench.

Yeah you're neck might need adjusted with allen, but be very careful, don't over tighten the nut/truss rod or you could risk splitting your neck and fuckin your guitar, Just small quarter turn

from book I have: Looking after your guitar

-a neck with too little relief requires the truss rod to be loosened by turnign the nut anticlockwise, a neck with that has too much relief requires to be tightnened, the truss rod must be tightened with key or wrench turn nut clockwise

-the truss rod tension may need adjusting if the guitar has been left without maintenance for a number of years or whenever a set of heavier or lighter strings are fitted

Neck Adjustment

- The object is to create just enough space for the string to vibrate without buzzing.
- Tighten the rod for less space and loosen it for more space until the guitar is easy to play without string ratttle. Check the tension of the neck by placing a straight edge along the frets between the 12th fret and the nut for e.g. use ruler

It's probabley best if you take your guitar to a shop so that a pro can do it.
