She was sort of in an "edgy b-listers from bands with a moderate amount of cash" phase. Paris's rebound from Deryck was Nick Carter (who beat her up, actually).

i guess she heard Sum 41 are doing well then so she decided to check 'em out and Deryck seemed the best cuz he's the frontman... haha.
