since when is tom officially in sum? last i knew he was just a touring guitarist and thats all deryck, steve, and cone wanted to do out of respect for dave....

Deryck has said it both at Sum41.com and Absolutepunk.net.
Also, Tom has been part of Sums' latest photoshoots.

Yeah, Tom is everywhere, except being listed as a member in the Sum 41 myspace and facebook pages, which is weird haha, although the main facebook and Myspace pics are with him...

The reason I think Brown Tom should be part of the official recording process is because he is also a song writer and two songwriters is better than one. A great band usually has clash of ideas. So I think it would be nice for Sum 41 to have that clash of ideas because obviously Stevo just recording his drums and Cone hopefully steps it up and presents some of his ideas to the band.

Haha, wow. Okay, in all honesty, I would like to hear what a "heavier" Sum 41 album would sound like without Dave and only Deryck coming up with "crazy guitar parts". On the other hand, I want to hear what Tom brings to the table.
I mean, Tom is the frontman of his own band. It would probably do Deryck and Sum 41 some good to get different perspectives and approaches to songwriting.
