Just some Asho 2 cents...if Sum 41 and Blink 182 are "punk" of the 90s. Punk is dead.

There are still real punk bands out there. Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys...etc...

Pop punk may be a "form of punk"...but it's also a form of pop. So if it's okay to say it's punk, that means it's also okay to say it's pop - and I doubt many of you kids would be okay with someone calling Sum 41 a pop band...

All that being said - who gives a shit what genre they are? Really?

Blink and Sum are often compared etc. because to the general public - they sound the same, and they have a huge mutual fanbase.
I've even seen them play live together, co-headlining...that generally means that they share fans.

Yeah that was back in 2001 they toured together. New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio toured with blink back then as well. it would have been amazing to see all of those bands at the same show. Not sure whether they all appeared together though. And sum 41 and blink 182 were the big pop-punk bands in 2001.

You don't need to be a genius to know why they are compared. They both play the same sort of music at least in the AKNF and DTLI era. Most people who likes Blink like Sum 41 so it isn't that weird they are compared. And by the way it was Green Day and Blink who was the biggest pop-punk band 2001.

Well, Sum have much more advanced guitarparts since Brownsound is a much better guitar player than Tom.
That's the only difrence i can think of right now.

i thought green day had kind of been forgotten about for a while after warning as a lot of their fans weren't impressed by it (i didn't actually mind it). Then when the pop disaster tour in 2002 happened they got big again.

Are you kidding? Green Day got big again for real with American Idiot. They weren't that big for the Pop Disaster tour.

The names are similar and they play the same-sounding music. At least it's more evident in Sum 41's earlier work and Underclass Hero.

I'm not a big Blink fan, so I don't know anymore similarities.

That's true. I love both blink and Sum, though blink and some other bands are a lot better than Sum 41, but that's just my opinion.

And really, a lot of people compare them, like a lot, but there's hardly any song from blink that I could imagine Sum 41 playing, and vice versa. Yeah, similar genres, but the style that they play it in, it's just different somehow. But that's probably just because blink is my favorite band in the whole world.
