New site - TNS

Post by dirk »

Hello Everybody.

Is there a possibility to get a new TNS site?

This site is old and a lot of links are not working anymore. Where is frank zummo on the frontpage? Dave BAKESH Brownsound?

what about the spanish, french en itilian part of this site? Coming soon(haha)?

I will make the new site :) but maybe there are some other people who will give it a try

I'd be more than happy to help or take on a project that means the revival and refresh of TheresNoSolution.

The very first step would be to get rid of this phpBB forum software which is severely outdated and does not come close to being relevant with today's usage of discussion media.

Some important points:
- Information about about the band needs to be updated. We should be able to do a better job than wikipedia with the dedication and knowledge I've seen from people here.
- There should be feeds with information about the band from other sources as well (RSS feeds of some kind), this would attract the kind of fan that wants to be updated. Making TNS the one stop for information.
- TNS needs to be very good to read on a mobile device. There should not be needed any explanation to why this is important. Everything is on mobile these days.

Agree with you guys the site needs a update, like look according to "13 Voices", I think need a remove of the lenguage page, the site works so good only on english, many of us understand english, speak or write. The members bio or so, need to update and put Steve as a ex-drummer and Frank as the actual drummer, add the comeback of Dave. update the twitter accounts, add instagram accounts and the Tom's snapchat, also the banner needs a change like some new photoshoot with Dave and Frank. So I hope the site update before the albums drop lol. :devious:

This is a great idea, I think this would help assist in the promo for their new album.

Since they dont do a lot of press, it would be great to have consistent articles or news coming from this site, even if its something as simple as history or photos, not just the big stories.

It's important to have news/content in searches consistently these days or people quickly forget about you.

I think there are web developers/designers who did the last couple of iterations of the site, who aren't that active as users anymore. Someone like Tomi, Mitchell or Jeremy can probably put you guys in touch with them. Good idea on freshening things up in time for the album launch.

Haha, V4 ain't gonna happen any time soon. The site works fine, a couple of minor updates needed aren't cause for a major refresh. If you send Jake or Boni a message with suggested revisions I'm sure they'll get round to it at some point.

There's been some work going on behind the scenes. The new update probably won't be as big a change as V3 was compared to V2, but we're definitely working on making everything relevant again.

When TNS launched, and even 5 years ago, the Internet was different. Forums were there for people to share their thoughts, but now social media has pretty much replaced the forum scene. The outdated site isn't the only one to blame for the inactivity on the site, the way people use the Internet has changed.

TNS has always been about quality before quantity. While we welcome new members, at the moment we don't feel the need to change how we roll to get more attention. We use the social media platforms to share pictures and smaller stories, while the website is the place for bigger news. It would be harder for a visitor of the site to find relevant info about the band if the website was full of #tbt pictures.

You're right, more content is better, but we want to stay different from the numerous fan accounts who all keep posting the same non-relevant pictures all day long.

This. The site structure is brilliant. Content will be updated, maybe some graphics as well, but there's no imminent need to change everything.

Respect. Regardless tho a new layout would be awesome with the current full band in prep for 13. Plenty of high res photos are out there to make a new dope splash

this!
I don't spend as much time on my laptop as I used to cause I'm way too busy lately, hence I can not visit the site as often as I want to cause it just doesn't work properly on my phone.

I was assuming layout and some content would change once 13 Voices drops, as it had when SBM did. And yes, it does take a little more effort to use the forum on mobile, but as mentioned, the forum was created when people were still reliant on computers for these sorts of things.

The wheel is turning. albeit a little slowly right now.

Nic is working on a design, and as soon as that is perfected, it will be full steam ahead on development.

As v4 nears, we will definitely get some previews on the go to keep everyone in the loop.

v3 has aged kinda badly. It was born pretty much at the same time as the whole 'responsive design' trend kicked off, and was never updated to fall in line. And really was never 100% finished (this is my fault entirely).

That being said, v4 will be bigger, better and much easier to use on mobile :)

And sorry... PhpBB is going nowhere. It's not as bad as I think you think it is, and it's certainly capable of being a modern discussion platform. The main reason driving my refusal to move on is that there's far too much history in the forums that I don't want to get rid of, and the scale of work required to migrate everything is just far too big :( I've ran some tests on updating this heavily customized version to the latest release and that has gone ok.

I will definitely look in to pulling rss feeds from other sites, as well as providing one of our own.

We are also looking at merging the en/es in to a single user-base which will also make it easier to implement the other languages we have on board, and more in future. We also have a few more plans that rely on this, but more on that soon.

As for the content, I have built a custom wiki-style editing system ready for v4 whereby anyone will be able to edit the content, pending approval from the more veteran members/admins. I also have an actual working content management system (unlike the 10% finished v3 one) that the mods will be able to use to keep things up to date.

That being said, I am kinda a one man band when it comes to development of the site (Nic mostly deals with design), and my free time is somewhat limited, so things are a little slow :(.

As always guys, we're open to suggestions/feedback and if anyone wants to help, please let me know and I will see where we can fit you in :)

Soon™

I always read my PMs :) I may not visit very often or read every post, but I stop by at least once a week :)

Glad to see there's a new version coming, personally I'd be happy with a stripped back version of the site if it meant better support/fewer issues. I always have to re-login to post, it's kinda irritating.

Be sure to use "https://www.theresnosolution.com/en/" as the address when entering TNS. If you don't use "www.", you need to log in.

Damn Tomi you make me feel sooo old right now, but yeah it's been almost 10 years since we joined, "fandoms" have changed a lot since then.

We're about to get into the next phase of an album here and we haven't updated any visuals. I'm kind of disappointed. But seeing the amount of acitivity we get here, not many would notice so much.
