Upgrading to Snow Leopard

Post by Jeremy Kill »

I'm behind the times, I'm sure, but I can't backup my iPhone 5 to iTunes unless I have iTunes 10.7 and I can't have that unless I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I only have 10.5.8

My question is: Should I just buy an entirely new MacBook or just upgrade the Mac I already have to Snow Leopard? In the long run I suppose a new MacBook would be good, but it will take a while to save up for. I'm not sure how expensive Snow Leopard is or if it is even available. The reason this is a problem is because I want to transfer crap from my iPhone 4 to my 5 and let my 4 die in peace (the power/lock button doesn't work anymore, so if it dies it dies forever). It's backed up on my old Mac, but it's pointless if it's not compatible.

I'm guessing you can't just go straight to Mountain Lion?

Upgrading to a new OS is cheap as fuck on Macs, I only paid €17 to upgrade to mountain lion.
I'm not sure if Snow Leopard is still available, just look for it in the app store.

Isn't Mountain Lion the newest one? Surely it will still be available. I'm just not sure what previous versions you can update from and on what age machines it's compatible with.

But as Mitch said, it's fairly cheap to update!

Upgrading to Snow Leopard

Thanks, I'll go to the Apple Store this week and see if they have Snow Leopard. I don't think I can just jump straight to Mountain Lion or even Lion unless I have the other software, right? Unless I bought a new Mac with it installed already.

I'm not 100% sure the apple stores still stock it.

I bought my macbook in summer 2010 with whatever cat 10.6 is. In order to run some software, I upgraded a few months ago straight to 10.8 (Mountain Lion I think) for only $10 and skipped over the $20 10.7 (Snow Leopard?)
