Sum 41 To Start Working On A New Album After This Tour!

Post by Jeremy Kill »

Whatever the sound of the album is going to be, I just hope it has honesty, energy and attitude. Case in point, every song from Screaming Bloody Murder had something about it that made you feel the authenticity of the lyrics. Maybe it was the way he sang and how he presented his voice.

Sum 41 To Start Working On A New Album After This Tour!

Post by Jeremy Kill »

Minimum three years I'm thinking. I wouldn't mind if they went back to the writing habits of Underclass Hero. That was the only time they seemed to be relaxed yet diligent when writing music.

Do you think they'll try and get a producer again? Or is it pretty much set now that Deryck will just end up doing it as he is a self-proclaimed control freak?

I don't really care what it sounds like, as long as EVERYONE adds something to the album, not just Deryck. More songs as a band and not just Deryck going solo. Deryck and Tom both wrote Screaming Bloody Murder (song) and that song was probably the best off the album. Thats why we need more of a collaboration from the band and not just Deryck. Just my opinion so don't bite my head off about it.

I also may have heard through grapevine that Deryck started the first track for the album recently and it has an "epic"-ness like "Reason To Believe" only..."much more epic". Keep that information in this thread though please!

I think that the band is really exited to start making some more music again. SO glad to hear Deryck started writing again.

You can still feed me info through the PM vine. ;)

I'm liking the epic epicness though. I hope they do video updates again. I would totally be their "grab furniture from the pool every morning and plunge a poop-clogged toilet" guy for the studio sessions.

I like these tracks as well. I wouldn't mind if the album sounded a little more like this. To be honest, I could care less what it sounds like and doesn't sound like though, 'cause it'll be aweSUM and sound like Sum 41!

RtB is my favourite SBM song and the intro just gets me every time. I could get used to more of it!

Can't imagine what style the new songs will be. I mean they always come up with new sound after all. Epic as in "Believe" kind of eastern melodies and then big sounding songs? Wonder if they'll keep up with SBM style when it comes to structure of the songs, I mean the songs that were basic structure on SBM sounded kinda...? I don't know, haha. It was like "Oh wait, basic structure?" They kinda stand out, not in a bad or good way but just stand out.

I wouldn't mind having softer album as long as it's not exactly poppy. Something soft rock-ish could work for sure but I think they're gonna keep up with heavier sound. If they keep up with video updates and Deryck bothers to write blogs or some sort like while writing SBM, that'd be proper treat for fans! Can't expect that though but one can wish, they're damn good for their fans after all.

And hopefully Deryck puts out the Blood In My Eyes acoustic version soon, wasn't there some sort of talk about that? Cone said maybe use it as b-side for next record but as far as I remember, Deryck talked about putting it out "maybe soon", haha.

It's in a "demo" phase right now. I heard it on the tour bus. It's great. They are thinking about adding strings to it though. Who knows when it will actually come out. They actually wanted to throw BIME acoustic on the setlist for this tour along with acoustic versions of Pieces and Mother's Little Helper. I think sickness got in the way.

I'm sure Deryck will do it again. He just said in the last interview that he doesn't like Thanks for Nothing, because how it got mixed, guess he doesn't want to make "mistake" like that ever again, so he'll do it himself.

But I hope he doesn't want to do everything, they're a band, they should work together in every details.
